COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The English know a thing or two about pale ale. West Coasters know a thing or two about having a good time. Naturally, we kept these facts in mind when we perfected the recipe for English Bay Pale Ale. Tradition is served in the smooth, mild flavour and caramel malt aroma, and that distinctive West Coast character comes through thanks to natural carbonation and careful maturing. The result? A real pale ale with will rise to any occasion.

I tried this beer on August 3, 2012 as part of a Granville Island/Creemore mixed 6 pack that was purchased at one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a translucent cherry red colour with a very thin white head. The aroma is caramel, weak hops, and some metallic notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The metallic notes really come through in the flavour, although there is a bit or sour grains as well. Not a fan of Granville Island after the three beers I received.

Pours deep copper with no head. Some carbonation. Almost no aroma to speak of. Refreshing taste with fruity and woody undertones. Very drinkable but not a lot of flavour. Does not linger on the palate. Not anything fantastic. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught at The Beer Academy, June 20. Pours a deep copper-gold with an average size semi-lasting frothy white head. Mild aroma of fruit, a touch sour along with grain and caramel malt. Flavour of grain, apple juice, biscuity malt and very light hops. Average bodied. Quite mediocre indeed.

What, are we now turning into Quebec? Another merely-competent, OK beer to file under ’why did they bother, and what does this add to our craft brew scene.’ Pale gold and white cap, aroma mostly biscuit malt and caramel, whiff of fresh grassy hops. Taste is sweet biscuit malt and medium body, a hint of fruit, some wort. Some hop on finish. Pleasant but dull, will never drink this beer again for its sheer lack of ambition.

Bottle, Granville/Creemore mix pack from lcbo. Medium orange/brown, small slick head, looks thin. Mild caramel malt aroma. Taste is pretty sweet, nice actually, but lacking in anything else (hops, body). Maybe a hop or two in finish, but it is very short. Drinkable, but not as advertised.

A prettystandars beer. Very creamy and malty with little hop charcter. Sweet finish. Not bad.

A pale ale that is lacking in hops. Not a bad malt taste but a bit too watery. Tastes more like a rousse/amber than a pale ale and is a bit too bland.

355ml can. Pale in appearance, aroma and flavour. Easy to drink, easier to pass up.

June 9 2012. On tap @ Stokes by the Bay, Sarnia. Poured a clear amber with a thin white head. Aroma was slight biscuit and nothing else. Tastes of malt biscuit and very modest hop finish. Creamy mouthfeel and no aftertaste. Expected a little more flavour but when all offerings were coors I guess it is an impressive beer considering creemore owns the brewery. After 4 pints I'm not as critical.

355 ml can. Pours a clear copper color with medium head of big bubbles that dissipates quickly. Light cereal aroma. Light malt and cereal flavors with light hop finish. Good for quaffing by the pitcher.
