3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 pintbypint (1973) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 12, 2013
650ml brown bottle. 2013 Limited Release. Orangey golden in colour, slightly unclear. Small white head with creamy edges. Light lacing. Nose has zesty orange and grapefruit. Taste has grapefruit up front, notes of orange peel and grapefruit in the finish, malts are very clean. Medium bitterness, not very aggressive. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Decent effort here, certainly in Double IPA territory, but a bit mild. Ok price point.
3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 stantheman (362) - British Columbia, CANADA - APR 30, 2013
Large bottle from Boundary Crossing Liquor Store in East Vancouver. A medium amber with generous beige head. Wow! A generous load of hops here, with just the faintest malt detected in the background. Very citrus bitter finish.
Looks like the corporate macro giants are starting to get the message. Probably the best the best I’ve tried from GIB to date.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 northropfrye (1346) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - APR 27, 2013
Amber colour with foamy white head, nice lacing. Aroma of pine and fruit. Taste is semi-bitter, hoppy, but with a definite sweet fruity element as well. Quite nice.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Eyrish (31) - British Columbia, CANADA - APR 26, 2013
2013 edition. 8.6% just what they needed to do add more alc. hazy golden pour. Small head, nice lacing. Moderate carbonation. Great citrus hop nose. Maybe Amarillo heavy. Bitter finish. great creamy palate. Great beer and a classic double IPA. Well done
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 piscator34 (1798) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - APR 25, 2013
Bottled sample. Orange in colour with moderate (and soft) carbonation. Aromas are of muted sweet orange and a hint or caramelized pear. Flavours are of chewy (but not overly sweet) pale malt, grassy and citrusy hops, a bit of booze and mint. Medium to heavy bodied with chunky bitterness. Has a certain British-ness to it inspire of the old school citrusy American hops. Ok overall.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Jokine (46) - Manitoba, CANADA - APR 25, 2013
Best IPA I’ve had so far. Smell is very fruity with Orange, Peach, Mango, and Grapefruit notes. Taste is similar, with surprisingly little bitterness on the finish in comparison to other IPA’s I’ve had.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 eric_victor (45) - Manitoba, CANADA - APR 21, 2013
Very thin white head. Clear orange colour. Not too strong hop aroma. Nice soft carbonation. Very good. Probably the best from this brewery. I expected more from a "Limited release" though. Good beer.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 patricks110 (1212) - Alberta, CANADA - APR 21, 2013
Pouring a bright, vivid orange-gold colour with a well carbonated body and a light beige head that fizzles instantly to nothing. A few white splotches of head coat the glass for a short while before fading away prematurely. The aroma has a mild Pacific NW feel with heavy resin and piney hop aromas full frontal with obvious citrus notes. The aroma lacks an overall malt character midst the heavy hop scents. The flavour is unbalanced and rather resinous upfront with heavy citric hop acids and a light toasted malt. A bit of an overall sweet flavour and notes of lemon peel and fresh grapefruit juice join the party. The finish has an abrupt and potent astringent bitterness although short lived as it fades quickly.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 cards04 (819) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - APR 21, 2013
Pours a nice peach colour with big white head and nice lacing. Dank and resinous aromas. ..nice. bitter resinous flavours balanced nicely with a thick malty sweetness. The best dipa I’ve had since hopslam. Just kidding. But it is quite good, and probably Granville Islands best effort. If the people of said brewery read these ratings to get a beat on their beers, I say to you. ..make more beers like this.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Zeswaft (1272) - Seattle, Washington, USA - APR 14, 2013
Bomber. This is pretty bad. I haven’t had one IPA in canada that’s come remotely close to an american one. This is all caramel malt on the nose. Flavor is burned plastic hops and bitterness. A little bit of alcohol too. Late in the finish there is a flash of citrus. I would never get this again, especially for $8 a bomber.
