COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Imperial India Pale Ale is a hopped-up version of beers made famous by the British Raj over a century ago. Big malt, bold hops and a higher-alcohol content all mean one thing: more flavour. Combining local and English malts with Pacific Northwest hops and special yeast, our Imperial IPA is complemented by a unique citrus-peel bitterness thatís excellent for toasting Vancouverís 125th birthday this year. Cheers, Vancouver!

Bottled sample. Orange in colour with moderate (and soft) carbonation. Aromas are of muted sweet orange and a hint or caramelized pear. Flavours are of chewy (but not overly sweet) pale malt, grassy and citrusy hops, a bit of booze and mint. Medium to heavy bodied with chunky bitterness. Has a certain British-ness to it inspire of the old school citrusy American hops. Ok overall.

Best IPA Iíve had so far. Smell is very fruity with Orange, Peach, Mango, and Grapefruit notes. Taste is similar, with surprisingly little bitterness on the finish in comparison to other IPAís Iíve had.

Very thin white head. Clear orange colour. Not too strong hop aroma. Nice soft carbonation. Very good. Probably the best from this brewery. I expected more from a "Limited release" though. Good beer.

Pouring a bright, vivid orange-gold colour with a well carbonated body and a light beige head that fizzles instantly to nothing. A few white splotches of head coat the glass for a short while before fading away prematurely. The aroma has a mild Pacific NW feel with heavy resin and piney hop aromas full frontal with obvious citrus notes. The aroma lacks an overall malt character midst the heavy hop scents. The flavour is unbalanced and rather resinous upfront with heavy citric hop acids and a light toasted malt. A bit of an overall sweet flavour and notes of lemon peel and fresh grapefruit juice join the party. The finish has an abrupt and potent astringent bitterness although short lived as it fades quickly.

Pours a nice peach colour with big white head and nice lacing. Dank and resinous aromas. ..nice. bitter resinous flavours balanced nicely with a thick malty sweetness. The best dipa Iíve had since hopslam. Just kidding. But it is quite good, and probably Granville Islands best effort. If the people of said brewery read these ratings to get a beat on their beers, I say to you. ..make more beers like this.

Bomber. This is pretty bad. I havenít had one IPA in canada thatís come remotely close to an american one. This is all caramel malt on the nose. Flavor is burned plastic hops and bitterness. A little bit of alcohol too. Late in the finish there is a flash of citrus. I would never get this again, especially for $8 a bomber.

Bottle - Sweet grapefruit and citrus hops. Clear copper with a thick off white head. Upfront bitterness with resin and grapefruit. Malts do peak through but the bitterness overwhelms and doesnít dissipate. Finish has a bit of alcohol and the more I drink this the more I realize it is a pretty boring IIPA. Nice medium to full body. I am pretty impressed considering how bad their other beers have become, although nothing special it is decent.

Completely misses the mark. Sure itís got a nice smooth mouthfeel, the alcohol is hidden, and thereís a lot of bitterness in the flavour, but so what? The entire point of this style is to show off a complex palate of hop flavours and this is really just one noted blend of citrus and pine.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper gold with white lacing. Aroma of tropical fruits and some molasses style sweetness. Flavour the same, lightly floral, with a bitter aftertaste. Very hoppy.
