COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This unique beer style may be one of Ireland’s best kept secrets. Toffee-like in aroma, malty in flavour and copper in colour, Irish Red finishes clean and smooth, with a hint of Northwest hops to help get your Craic on when you’re not in Ireland.

I love Granville Island - in my opinion, they make some of the tastiest beers in BC. But this particular entry is insulting to Irish beer. Yuck. No beer in Ireland that I have ever had has the amount of hops that this thing does; on the contrary, Irish beers are known for their maltiness. This tastes like some trendy Phillips beer - jacked up with as much hops as can be stuffed into the bottle, while still looking like a Smithwick’s. A terrible beer, nothing like a real Irish red ale.

650ml brown bottle. 5.6% abv on label. Orange red colour, small tan cap. Nose has some surprise pine hops, spicy and pleasant. Lots of malt in the mouth, toffee notes, grains, a bit of earth and some spicy hop. Slight bitterness and piney hop aftertaste. Medium bodied, average mouthfeel and carbonation. A nice brew, pretty simple but very drinkable.

Surprisingly good little session brew. The pour is a light amber with a thin horrible looking head with some nice lacing rings. The nose has mild caramel, toasty and nutty malts with a mild hop note. The first sip has nutty and caramel malt sweetness and a few hop notes towards the finish. Well balanced and better than I expected overall.

650ml bottle. Red with mocha-coloured head. A tad earthy, toast and toffee with some floral, pine and citrus hop notes. Taste is of lightly sweet caramel and roast malt, balanced by the right amount of dry bitterness. Medium/light body, clean, moderate fizz, crisp finish. A good local take on an Irish Ale.

Pours a clear reddish/brown with quick-fading creamy white head. Aromas are hoppy and floral. Flavours hoppy and herbacious. Palate is thin and slightly watery. Not bad, but pretty one note.

Clear red copper, foamy off white head settles and lasts. Aroma of grassy piney hops and faint caramel malt. Surprisingly pine citrus hop forward taste, mildly sweet malts take a backseat. Becomes a bit thin and watery halfway through. Softly carbed, medium-light bodied, medium hopped. Flattens out a bit. Lightly bitter dry finish. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

Purchased a 650ml bomber for St. Patty's Day. Poured a dark, clear, auburn body, with fluffy french vanilla head. The head leaves nice trails on the glass as it dissipates, and settles with a nice milky lace. The aroma suggests caramel malts and Ceylon tea. More caramel and tea on the tongue with an appearance of PNW hops to balance things out nicely. Mouthfeel is smooth, medium bodied, light-medium carbonation. Overall, pleasantly surprised, and I would reach for this one again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This was better than I thought. Reddish brown colour, white head. I was hit with a nice whiff of bitter hops. Malty bitter taste. Quite similar, in some ways, to an English Bitter. Granville Island needs to keep making beers like this. Enjoyable.

Bottled sample. Copper in colour with moderate yet spritzy carbonation. Aromas are of mellow grapefruit, toasted malt, and a bit of caramel. Flavours are a blend of pale, toasted and caramel malts, backed by some orchard fruit and mild citrus. Light bodied with a bright mineral-like finish. Easy drinking and clean with more complexity than one would expect. Solid overall.
