Powertrip (64), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Mar 10, 2008 One of the finest noses I have ever come across. Rich melted belgian chocolate over a powder-sugared crépe’s. Hints of spicy malbec grapes softened by lush endless malt. Waves and waves of the malt follow into the mouth, all gently wrapped in a roasted glaze and finished off with sutle mild hops. Such a tragedy that this beer just slightly loses its edge with a bittery finish and also a touch too much carbonation. Still, gorgous beer.
carruthm (388), Seattle, Washington, USA May 3, 2008 taste resembles that of Newcastle Brown Ale with a little more of a chocolate finish. Little head with a ruby red color. Fantastic. Sammy (3072), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 21, 2008 White chcocolate in aroma, mostly. Whitish thock lacey look, although mouthfeel was lighter. FInishes bitter. tiggmtl (4181), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jan 4, 2008 Butterscotch, toffee, vanilla and chocolate in the sweet aroma. Clear copper coloured body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled, tan head that recedes slowly to a lasting cover with some lace. Toasty and doughy malts with notes of biscuit, wafer-cookie/waffle, vanilla, cinammon and chocolate up front in the flavour. Mild bitterness keeps sweetness from becoming overwhelming. Medium body with moderate carbonation that is lightly prickly and does a good job of concealing the somewhat slick texture. Half-pint glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (BCLS at Kingsgate, Dec-07). papajohn (990), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA Oct 19, 2007 Sample on tap at Granville Island Taproom: Brownish amber color with a small off-white head. Mild vanilla/root beer aroma. Flavor is spicy with vanilla and caramel and a mild bitterness. Medium bodied and smooth with moderate carbonation.
