Commercial Description:
Christmas Limited Release - 650ml ’Dopplebock’ means double strong beer and it was originally brewed by monks to help sustain them through the fasting of Lent. So celebrate the holidays with this rich and dark malt. The dry and spicy fruit flavour will finish dry and linger on the palate.

This is the stuff! Sadly a "limited release" from GI (for Christmas), and I think I’ve bought up all that was left at the local. Lovely amber colour, slight head, brilliant taste - perhaps some dark cherry in there? Make available year ’round, please!

From memory. Had a pile of these last Christmas - great scent of malts and slight fruitiness, not exactly Belgian but close enough. Nice big alcohol buzz. Good stuff.

Tootsie Roll caramel-ness in this thin-bodied beer. Extremely malty, a little sticky even with a mild spicy/herbal aftertaste. A little undercarbonated.

Pours ruby red with a thin white head. Smells fruity with some nice caramelly undertones. Tastes of rich caramel, touches of chocolate, dark fruit, pepper, some cinnamon. Finishes sweet. Nice!

[1035-20080108] 650mL (c/o DuctTape, w/ him, jerc, others). Light wheat aroma. Clear, amber brown body with a long-lasting creamy white head. Wheatie floral flavour has hints of cardboard and cashew. Light-medium body. Weird floral characteristics.

Bottle shared by DuctTape. Crisp brown body with a nice foamy off white head and lacing. (3+) Dry toasty malt aroma with an odd fruity character. Similarly toasty caramel malt flavour, warming alcohol, tangy malt character. Average plus palate is fairly smooth. Odd fruity character seems off for the style, and while not entirely unpleasant its a bit odd. Bit disappointing.

nice dark redish brown color. quite clear. small off white head that dissipates quickly. Slight malt in the aroma, not as much as i expected, its more fruity. Flavour is rich, and full of dark ripe fruit, such as figs, and berries. The malt is there, but not as prominent as you would expect in a doppelbock. A good beer, but not very akin to the style.
