COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Porter originated in London England just prior to the industrial revolution. The name was adopted after the porters who worked the docks of London and drank copious amounts of this dark ale to sustain them. As a style of ale, Porter is the predecessor of Stout which was originally called “Stout (or strong) Porter”. Our Porter is a deep brown, almost black, colour with a red tint. It presents coffee—like roasted malt flavours and a dry finish.

Only available in our Granville Island Brewing retail store.

(650ml bottle) Purchased at Brewery Creek in Vancouver. Pours a lasting creamy foam beige head and an opaque body. Nose of sour mash and roiasted malt. Flavours of big coffee and ashtray. Very interesting. Lasting creamy, smoked finish. 6/3/6/3/13

Limited Release 2009 - Sweet and fruity with notes of dates, raisins and brown sugar in the nose. Opaque, dark brown body with ruby highlights is topped by a low tan head that recedes to a thin cover. Sweetness in the mouth suggests chocolate milk. It’s pretty simple but quite tasty. Some of the fruity character appears in the aftertaste. Light balancing bitterness keeps the sweetness from getting too strong or sticky. Medium body with a slightly slick texture and moderate carbonation. Enjoyable... Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at the BCLS at Hellsgate in Jan-09.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2009 Pours a dark ruby-brown with a thick, lasting head and completely coating lacing. Aroma is sweet and fruity with notes of fig. Lovely sweet taste, but not disgustingly so. Creamy, buttery, light chocolate, just a hint of alcohol. Decent carb, nice thick body. I am really digging this lovely quaffable porter, and wish it would replace the bland "christmas pudding" porters supplied to local restaurants.
