3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep amber, copper. Earhty, hint of peat, which I always like in a Scotch Strong. Caramel and toffee, bit of chocolate.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
650ml brown bottle. 2013 release. Reddish brown in colour, clear looking, off white foam on top. Average lacing and short head retention. Nose is malty with some nutty notes and caramel/toffee. Taste has caramel and toffee malts. Toasty finish with lingering toffee and mild bitterness. Medium bodied, average mouthfeel and carbonation. Some nice malt flavours here, overall a nice beer. Probably would have been a bit more enjoyable in the winter months.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
caramel, toast, earthy, smoke, red, brown, clear, minimal head, tan foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, thin feel, soft carbonation, bitter
Brown pour with some reddish highlights. Subtle aroma from minimal tan foam of sweet malt, smoke, and toasty earthiness. Taste is lightly sweet with a more pronounced hop bitterness. Hint of diacytal butter as well. Very thin bodied with a watery effect on the tongue. Alcohol heat apparent and finishes on the dry side. Lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. More reminiscent of a dry stout then the expected cloying sweetness of a scotch ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pouring a dark burnished brown with burgundian highlights in the body and a light beige coloured head. The head albeit shortlived gives a few intriguing lacing rings to the glass. The initial aroma is a bit intense up front with noticeable roasted and peated malts and a slight smoky ash scent. An overall malty aroma lacks an overall balance with a big blend of robust dark malts. The flavour profile has mild sweetness with toffee malts and rich creamy pudding flavours. The peat and smoke is lacking in the flavour despite the mild presence in the aroma. A bit of spritzy carbonation towards the finish with moderately hop bitterness rounds out the flavour rather well. A nice lightly smoked brew with rich malts throughout and a good balance. Overall, a nice solid brew.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
650 ml bottle. Pours a dark mahogany/red with little head. Aromas of biscuit and toasted malt. Flavors of malts, light caramel, light vegetable, and toast, plus a little butter and nuttiness. Not bad, but not impressive.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
650ml bottle pours brown in color with a finger of creamy white head that retains well and leaves a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is quite mild for the style with some caramel and very little peat or smoke aromas. Taste is mellow but pleasant with some caramel and light bitterness and hints of smoke. Light to medium body with mild carbonation. A very subtle Scottish ale, which is easy to drink, makes a good session ale.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, 7.5% ABV
Dark brown color; small creamy head. Light caramel aroma. Caramel flavor, a bit nutty and breadish, with some dirty water and light residual sweetness. Correct bitterness, with a very light final acidity from the dark malts. Easy.

nuts, fruits, chocolate and even smoke. not quite as big as some Wee Heavy Ales. nonetheless, a great winter warmer that went fabulously with a bowl of salty snacks in front of a roaring fire. wish it wasn’t just a seasonal release.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
650mL bottle, pours dark amber with a tiny head. Aroma of caramel malts, vanilla, maple and cloying sweetness. Flavour is caramel malt heavy, with the maple sugar and vanilla coming through as well. Woody and peaty finish. Quite decent.
