A tart, refreshing saison brewed with our dear friend Luc Bim Lafontaine, formerly of Dieu du Ciel! Lime, hibiscus and blood orange in a mix fermentation.

Consumed 8/25/13, poured quickly into a HF fest glass. A- Pours a cloudy orange-copper with a soapy brilliant white head about 3 inches tall with good to excellent lacing. Over a few minutes it falls to about a half inch coating over the beer. Medium carbonation. S- A strong brett presence with a lemon-lime tartness, I can’t tell if it is the fruit or some acidity from bugs. Smells much more funky than I remember from the last time I drank it. Some rubber band phenolics also present. T- Wow- not what I was expecting at all from the nose! Extremely tart- lemon and lime. I know it has been mentioned in previous reviews, but this is very reminiscent of alcoholic sprite. On the end, there are some pepper and floral notes that really balance out the extreme tartness from the beginning and seem to cut the acidity to a not-so-lingering level. M- Much more effervescent than I was expecting. The carbonation really accentuates the acidity up front. Body is medium to low. The dry but not cottonmouth finish makes you crave another sip as soon as you swallow. O- Another hit from the HF/Grassroots crew. I drank one about a month after release and I don’t remember it being nearly as tart as this, although I think it has improved. That being said, drink it now...this is a simply amazing experience.

(Rating #5088)

750 ml bottle from Hill Farmstead. A curious orange or amber type color, with a nice cap of white head in the snifter. Nose is a crazy amount of tart citrus, limes, oranges and traces of hibiscus flower. The flavor is every bit as good as the nose. Again with the citrus fruits with the Grassy / floral notes with just the right level of tartness. The mouthfeel is great! Lively effervescence with juicy citrus flavors that is balanced nicely with the tartness. Damn, this was a great brew, really, REALLY wish I had more bottles. Hopefully this will get brewed again next year, super refreshing and quenched my thirst.

750 ml bottle shared with the group. Pours a hazy peachy golden color with a small white head. The aroma and flavor had a strong blood orange citrus note, orange rind, herbal, grassy, tart qualities, somewhat spicy notes, tingly carbonation. Some floral notes remained more in the aroma. I liked the complexity in the beer.

Bottle. Damn, I was not expecting this to be so tart. Super tart citrus, lemon/lime prevalent. Surprisingly smooth mouthfeel given the style, not thin. Taste gets a little less tart as it warms, getting fruitier. Lots of funk. Great beer.

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2014 2014-08-16. No notes, but I’m adding +1 to the overall. So deliciously drinkable. Bottle at Campground Brewdown.

2013-08-17. Hazy pastel orange body with a nice white head. Aroma is pleasant and really interesting with a citrus and lime melange that is quite pleasant. 8+ Flavour is similar, starting with a nice tart lime character up front, moderate bitterness throughout and orange citrus accents. Lingering lime tartness in the finish and aftertaste. Average plus bodied palate with a nice effervescent carbonation that suits it. I really quite liked this one - I may have knocked back the remainder straight from the bottle later in the evening. Lovely stuff and eminently drinkable. Bottle, Campground Brewdown.
