JanLaursen (1121) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - APR 6, 2012
Bottle, 33 cl. Hazy golden with a foamy, slowly diminishing white head, nice lacings. Aroma is extremely fruitdriven, hoppy. Orangejuice, graoefruit, sweaty armpit, resin,, lemonzest, elderflower and light malts in the nose. Malty biscuity sweetness and strong bitterness in the mouth, lightly astringent superdry, resinous yet fruity finish. Creamy texture, full body, soft carbonation. Monstrous!

Bottled 33cl. Murky golden with an average sized bubbly white head. Pine, cat’s piss, grapefruit, mango, sweat and pale malts showing up in the nose. Strong bitterness. A little sticky chunky lace. Creamy palate. Peppery on the swallow. Medium to full bodied. Grassy bitter finish which is reminiscent of resinous hops. Flawless and nice.

Bottled @ home, bb june 2012. Clear golden color, short white head. Hoppy aroma, grassy, some sweet candy, ctirus, hint of pineapple, new zealand hops? Very bitter taste, again slight candy. Slight harsh on the palate, quite dry. Pretty nice, although I don’t have a very fresh bottle. Love to try this fresh once.

Bottle… Cloudy amber ale with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. Great retention. The only two things I’m able to pull from the nose are fruity white grapes and white pepper – both are nice. No complaints. Full-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. The flavor is bitter, but grapey, fruity and nice. There are also some nice biscuit and bready malts. Acidic, moderately bitter, dry finish. Big-time thanks to Plovmand for helping me land the third of four beers resulting from the Cigar City/ Grassroots/Hill Farmstead collaboration!

Countbeer (1943) - Best of Eindhoven ohne Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - JAN 29, 2012
Bottle: Medium to bigger airy but vast and slow disappearing white head on top of a hazy yellow orange colored beer. The white head changes in to a small rocky half half lacing. Smell is a terrific smell of fresh fruits like peach, pine, pine apple, cactus, mango, citrus, lots of exotic fruit and a soft gentle hop character. Taste is a very gentle balanced mix of exotic fruits like cactus, pine, peach, mango, grapefruit, hops, citrus, good and growing bitterness, hints of floral, herbs, grass. The first part of the sip/taste is fruity, exotic fruity, fresh and floral, the 2nd part the bitterness (hops, grapefruit) takes over and pushes everything to the backgroud. Delicious! Full bitter aftertaste with some nice hints of hops, fruit and some herbs. Low carbo, soft silky and thicker mouthfeel, full body and a creamy texture. Wow, amazingly balanced, really good bitter and fruity fresh. Nice! (hmm... that’s a nice burp, hops and burger!)

In short: A harsh, very bitter, very dry, grapefruity and grassy blonde IPA. Good tasty stuff.
How: Bottle 330ml, consumed relatively fresh 4 months after the beer release
The look: Clear blonde body topped by a medium white head
In long: Nose is all about sharp grapefruity hops with also a light herbal component. Taste has sugary pale malts (crystal malts?) that do not contribute much to the flavour profile other than residual sugars (refined white sugar sensation). For a 9%+beer this one sure has a shy malt bill. Taste is dominated by ultra-sharp-bitter grapefruty hops with very dry grassy notes. A lithe alcohol bite at the end. Intense bitterness with an aggressive dryness. I love dry and bitter IPAs so I loved that beer but even I must admit that this is a brutal beer. Maybe it is because I was drunk but I thought this was an very good IPA, and because I’m a honest person most of the opinions I express every day are prefixed by “Maybe it is because I was drunk but…".
