3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Christian (8548) - Odense, - JUN 28, 2011
Hazy golden to golden with a big and lasting white head. Aroma of spices and herbs, with some bright citrus notes. Herbal and grassy flavour with a hint of brett. Coriander and clove notes. Quite dry and with a nice bitter finish. Given time it might develop nicely, but wasn’t ready to shine at the Copenhagen beer festival
2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Sammy (6125) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 11, 2012
On tap at Local Option. Neither the staff nor I enjoyed it very much, particularly as wild yeast used. Looks good but funky aroma. Drinkable.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 deyholla (3533) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - APR 15, 2012
On tap at Local Option. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice light floral note with some light citrus and a bit of backing sweet grain. Flavor has more of a grassy note with notes of light citrus, floral and sweet grain.
1.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 dumontn (528) - CHICAGO, Illinois, USA - APR 7, 2012
Now here’s a beer that I was insanely disappointed by. A horrible misuse of Orval’s yeast. Pours opaque yellow with a huge dense creamy head. Aroma is promising; funky lemon heads candy, other tart notes, some foot-like funk, floral hop notes. taste is minty and wierd, really reminded me of what Ben Gay smells like. Very harshly herbal. Body is nice and creamy but with a gross herbal finish. Overall, one of the absolute worst brews I’ve ever had.
3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Lubiere (6990) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 29, 2012
A lightly hazed blonde ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, pungent Brett and lactic acids, barnyard, lambic-like, super fragrant. In mouth, a corky harsh phenolic ale with loads of bitter herbs, interesting. On tap at Prohibition Pig, March 12, 2012.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 sayravai (4548) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 8, 2012
(Draught@Pikkulintu, rated 2011-10-12) Muddy yellow with a small, firm head. Deliciously Orvaly nose with tartness and citrus. Flavor also sourish, flowery-citrusy, smoked-malty. High bitterness is controlled, remains balanced overall. Medium body, slightly fizzy CO2, refreshing. Slightly ashy, but otherwise a very successful Orval yeast experiment. Inherits the tartness, freshness, and drinkability - yet it’s a very different beer.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Adenila (1470) - DENMARK - DEC 8, 2011
Hazy orange with a thick White head. The Brett is very clear in the aroma, almost overpowering, spearmint, molden basment and yenka bubblegum. Light bitter flavor, yeasty Brett, mild sweetness
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Borresteijn (2759) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - DEC 6, 2011
On tap at MikkellerBar. Cloudy yellow colour, big white head. Aroma of Brettanomyces, a lot of it actually, hints of poo, stables, hay, some lemon. Flavour is dry, yeasty, hay, straw, pale malts, light tartness, Brett, citrus, bitter hoppy finish. Light bodied, a bit overcarbonated. A bit overdone on the Brett, but nice.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Nightfall (1263) - Hamburg, GERMANY - DEC 5, 2011
Draught @ Olfestival 2011 Kobenhavn. Hazy golden/yellow with a small to medium white head. Citric hoppy aroma, wet wood and some brett. Flavour is again of citric fruit, brett, herbs. Dry brett finish.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Fin (5749) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 4, 2011
Cask, handpump at The Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell, London, 03.12.11 in company of Tom. Pours gold, with a very light haze, really lively pour, like a huge ice cream, looks great. Aroma as others suggest is a little barnyardy but also cheesy feet and lavender, wonderful concoction that sounds awful but is in fact quite likeable. Nice softness across the tongue, wonderfully crisp and then dry, clean fresh but subtle lemonyness. Excellent beer I had to have another. A7 A5 T9 P4 Ov16 4.1
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 lortsker (277) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - NOV 10, 2011
On tap @ Mikkeller, pours hazy yellow, with a huge fluffy head, a bit uncontrollable. Aroma: lots of brett, barnyard, horse blanket, farty, overripe fruit, dusty, rotten pear, Ylette (kschep), manure, fizzy medium mouthfeel, taste: pear, brett, overripe fruits, manure, barnyard, wet hay, farty bitter, very dry, some sweetness, light lemon, some grain, grassyness, a longlasting dry and somewhat bitter farty aftertaste. a bit too much fart. but amazing that the brett is so present and easy to pinpoint.
