4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 MartinT (6350) - Montreal, - FEB 6, 2011
My Bottom Line:
Lemon confit, crunchy wheat, citrusy hops and lactose coalesce in this superbly harmonious, creative strong ale. This shouldn’t be pigeonholed into any style category and should be approached with an open mind...
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A fluffy, pillowy head of foam bobs atop the shiny golden.
-The herbal, citrusy hop flavor becomes a bit resinous in the finish.
-This finish is at once bitter and tart, but neither are overwhelming.
-The lactose sweetness creates balance throughout.
-This is the height of the brewer’s art: creating something which has never been done from a slew of ingredients which rarely go together, and pulling out this perfectly cohesive brew. Bravo!
On tap at Hill Farmstead.

Den här ölen lever och frodas i citrus arom och smak. Att dricka den här ölen är som att äta ett helt apelsinträd, det blir, minst sagt, lite för mycket i slutändan. Men det här är en spännande, intressant och lite enformig öl. Slutsats: citrus!

(Draught) Pours a cloudy dirty yellow body with a tall dense off-white head. Aroma of vanilla, wood, lime, peach, and lemon. Flavor of vanilla, wood, lactic, and lime mélange pie.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 fiulijn (10421) - Como, ITALY - AUG 27, 2011
Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen Cloudy deep blond color. Fruity, citrusy aroma, with a touch of bergamot and lemon peel; followed by light manure too, and pond water. Medium bodied, but somehow lighter than expected; citrusy flavor, but the light lactic tartness doesn’t match very well. Strong bitterness, with a citrusy and dry final, a bit astringent, probably better than the rest. Refreshing, interesting, but strange.

On tap at Eulogy during RBSG. Pours a hazed gold with a medium to large creamy white head. Big sweet lemon peel and pith on the nose. Super sweet, lemony pith and lots of bitter lemon peel. Very grassy. Very interesting with a ton of citrus and a nice cool lemon grass note. I personally liked it, but I would say that it’s certainly tough to love, and I can definitely see why people don’t like it and why it’s so divisive. Absolutely spot on though for what it’s supposed to be. Well done.

On tap at the Farmer’s Cabinet, PA. Poured a cloudy yellow color with a small sized head. Aromas of lemons and citrus. Tastes of lemons, citrus, and some floral/grassiness. On the sweeter side with a lighter tartness.

Tap at Farmers Cabinet. Pretty nice, lots of lemon, some light sorachi, citrus. Juicy, but restrained. Im a lover of all things lemon, this could have been a little tarter and a little less sweet but it was pretty good.

Tap at Eulogy. Aroma is quite hoppy. The flavor didn’t match up with this nose at all: cloying of butterscotch and toasted coconut with a hint of pickles. There is a sharp hop bite at the very end. I could imagine someone loving this, but it was a bit nauseating for me.
