An Amber Saison brewed on the Summer Solstice. Our great friends Peter (Flying Couch) and Christian (Beer Here) joined us from Denmark in celebrating the solstice and brewing this summer saison.

Almost flat, very low carb. Pours a murky Amber with zero head. Aroma of foggy wet dough. Lightly tart. A touch of funk. Thin mouthfeel. Low carb kills this beer. Meh.

750ml bottle, beautifully aged by oteyj. Not sure of the vintage, but definitely had 1+ years on it. Poured a gorgeous light walnut color, frothy off-white head. Nose and flavor held beautiful chestnut, fig, wheat, sourdough, pinot noir, and lightly funky oak character. Ultra dry. As reminiscent as the good bottles of Fantome as I’ve ever come across from an American brewery. Singular and delicious.

750mL bottle, unsure of date, shared by Bill on 7/25/15.
First medium-malts saison I’ve had in a while....Amber, good clarity with an off-white head that is well-retained.
Cherryskin, soft vanilla, light lactic touches and a warm baked sourdough breadiness are moderately well-integrated. Bits of appke-like esters with some light bitter grassiness and floral notes on the end. No alcohol or flaws. Very pleasant.
Flavor is wonderfully expressive of the darker malts....I keep sipping seeing if I find any out-of-balance caramel, sourdough or heavy sweetness, but no. The malts provide a good graininess, crusty, dry brown bread and then leave the yeasts alone to add cherry and apple fruits, vanilla and very soft funk. Earthy, lightly chewy and wonderfully carbonated and attenuated as youd expect. Nothing flashy, but very well-constructed. Those are my favorite types of beers.

September 24th, 2013 - The Sankt Hans Amber Saison was a treat served by a friend at a board game night, and impressed all much more than the board game did. The color is a murky, soft, brown-orange, heather at the edges, and effusive with buttery saffron notes in the smell. Yeast and white grape juice add a second and third dimension, with a full, fluffy smell and texture. The palate is on the light side, clear and quenching, and initially sour and carbonated. My first impression is that this resembles the Italian beer Panil, but a little flatter, and with the flavors and sourness reigned in. This saison also brings in more mandarin orange citrus, a light delicate palate, and tangerine to bring a hard-to-build balance.
