Enjoyed this one at the Three Penny Taproom. Have had other beers that Hill and Kissmeyer have collaborated on... and this one is another good example of what happens when two great brewers work together... really good.

In short: A no-style refreshing blonde ale with a fun lemongrass-floral character. Good beer.
How: Tap at Prohibition Pig, Waterbury VT.
The look: Cloudy yellow-blonde body topped by a small white head.
In long: Nose is lemongrass, a bit fruity, a bit floral, . In mouth the beer has a nice juicy texture with a lot of soft bubbles. Taste is very refreshing. Juicy fresh lemongrass, blood orange, grapefruit juice, crackers, mild notes of chamomile. Finish is juicy and with a refreshing bitterness of low-medium intensity. Chamomile is well integrated and doesn’t turn the beer into a gimmick beer. Certainly not an aromatic hop bomb like I’ve come to expect from HF/Grassroots but this is a fun refreshing not-too-gimmicky blonde ale with a personality of its own. And I swear, if another local beer pub waiter calls me a worthless drunk I’m gonna ask him to step outside with me so we can discuss other things we agree on.

(Rating #5110)

Keg at Three Penny Taproom - Montpelier, VT. Pours. Loudy gold with a moderate, frothy white head. The aroma holds lightly doughy pale malsts, touches of hay and yeast, and the chamomile definitely comes through. Light to medium sweet flavor with bready malts, mandarin orane, lemon merengue, faint citrua rind bitterness, more chamomile tea. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Lightly sweet to finish with more bready malts, whippy merengue, chamomile, semi-ripe citrus fruits. Very tasty and quite novel.

Hazed, creamy looking blonde. Pristine, sparkly lemongrass aroma with familiar wheat-like characteristics everywhere around it.

Bananas, dough, honey and lemon comprise a simple, sweet flavor that is smartly balanced by bits of coriander, and tea leaves, and fragrant lemongrass.

The palate lacks a certain brittleness or rustic crunch, instead offering an unyielding, mildly sticky sweetness in the finish. The purity of its lemongrass essence certainly overwhelms this issue; it is ultimately a lovely, well-made refreshing blonde ale.
