3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of FrumptyDumpty. Pours pitch black with a tiny, rough off-white head. Roasty, ashy nose. Medium body, carbonation is low, very hard roastiness, some vanilla while the JD notes only add a slight edge. Very malt astringent finish. I think I actually prefer the original. 270411

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle in NH - big thanks to Adam. Pours oily, black-brown with a creamy beige head. Ashy roast in the nose, some burnt wood. Medium sweet flavor, quite vinous, with lots of dry burnt wood and bittersweet cocoa. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately dry to finish with charred wood, burnt grass and further bittersweet baking cocoa character. Nice, rich. Pretty bitter with all the charred malts and what have you. Good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. It pours an oily, dark brown body and a small, tan head. Quite a lot of vanilla on the nose, with dark chocolate, roasted malts and bourbon. A bit one dimensional maybe, but really pleasant, even though I don’t care too much about of JD. There’s some sweetness in the flavor, but it feels quite dry on the palate. Lightly warming, full-bodied and soft on the carbonation. Coffee, dark chocolate and some vanilla in the flavor, finishing with a pleasant hoppy bitterness in addition to the roasted flavors found initially. Pleasant indeed. Starts a bit boring, but after a sip or two I really enjoy it. 120915
