3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 jebert (404) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 14, 2012Pours a dark black/brown with a head of light tan foam that dissipates quickly. Nose is chocolate and malt. Rich and creamy texture, the taste is full of chocolate, dark malt and cream with very little hops evident. Bully well done beer. Pairs well with brats off the grill.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lemke10 (539) - Janesville, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 24, 2013
Pours a very dark brown color with a very thin head that dissolves quickly. Has scents of roasted malts, with some toffee/coffee hints. Taste is thin with flavors of coffee, roasted malts, caramel. Texture is rather light and thin as this beer drinks much too quickly than it should. Got to love this beer since it’s made in my hometown and supports local jobs, but as far as American Porters on BA, this is an average beer.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 bluemooner (554) - East Bethel, Minnesota, USA - JUN 19, 2012
Pours a dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and milk chocolate. Flavor is more mild than expected and consists of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and nutty notes. Light to medium body with medium carbonation. Not a great Porter.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 wxman (1170) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - MAY 11, 2012
Pours a clear, quite dark cola color with a surprisingly very light tan head for the style. Head doesn’t stay very long, kinda fizzes away. So far, not my idea of a porter, and I haven’t even tasted it yet. Caramel and mollases aroma. Rather thin texture with a tartness in the taste. Mild licorice and maple syrup in the taste, but not overly sweet, subdued tartness asserts itself once again. This is an interesting, though not impressive, dark beer, but porter is not the word I would use.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 JK (3966) - Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - APR 22, 2012
Bottle. A black beer, low carbonation. Mild roasted flavor with grain. A run of the mill porter, as a session beer. Dry, bitter finish.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 BVery (4248) - Burnsville, Minnesota, USA - APR 8, 2012
Bottle. Nice dark brown pour with a good tan head that diminished fairly quickly. Initial aroma was roasty chocolate, but suddenly that disappeared and was replaced by a sour note. Palate is thin - even for the style. Taste is watery, slightly roasty, not offensive but pretty bland.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 djd07 (2316) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAR 27, 2012
Bottle. Pours a dark brown with ruby hue and small off white head. Roasted malt aroma and chocolate. Thin mouthfeel with a rich malt and metallic finish. Not too much going on with this one.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Drake (6488) - Ivy, Virginia, USA - SEP 6, 2011
12 ounce bottle from Woodman’s Madison West. Pours a dark reddish brown with a thin head. Poor head retention. Aroma of chocolate, molasses, faint hops and a bit of a smoky note. The taste is chocolate, caramel, nutty notes, faint smoke and hops. Thin-medium bodied. Nice.
3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Onslow (922) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - AUG 9, 2011
Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Dark brew with thin off white head. Aroma of malt / toasted malt. Taste is good - a nice blend of sweet malts and roasted malts with a little sour hops emerging in the finish. Palate is satisfying but light for the style. Not the most complex porter in the world but a worthy one.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JUL 24, 2011
12oz bottle: Pours a clear a barely transparent dark mahogany with a thin, spotty-lacing off-white head. Has a toasty, nutty, light caramel malty nose with a touch of English hops. Starts with average fullness and light malty sweetness with some nutty flavor and lingering dark chocolate and doughiness in the finish. Pretty smooth and very drinkable.
