3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 PorterPounder (3944) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUN 19, 2005
Discount Liquors, Milwaukee, WI. Pours a medium copper with a light off white head, decent, clingy lacing. Sweet, floral aroma, a touch of spruce. Flavor has a decidely grapfruity bent to it but not overwhelmingly bitter. Detect a bit of nuttiness in there as well with a trace of caramel. Decently sticky mouthfeel. Very good Midwestern IPA.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 GrainBeltGuzzler (249) - Goodhue, Minnesota, USA - JUN 8, 2005
very enjoyable beer, pours an odd dark amber color (odd for an IPA) Much maltier than any IPA I’ve had previously, nice full bodied, thoroughly enjoyable, I just had to take off some points for not really being brewed to style.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JMerritt (1568) - Macomb, Illinois, USA - FEB 12, 2005
Orangey amber, clear, with a very small off-white head even after an agressive pour. Caramel malts and pine sap hops in the aroma that is rather mellow. Hop bitterness is much higher than the mellow aroma would have you believe, and seems slightly medicinal and herbal. FInish is dry and bitter. Could use a bit more malt sweetness for balance, but overall, pretty good.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 steview (904) - San Francisco, California, USA - JAN 13, 2005
UPDATED: MAR 3, 2005 barely any head, quiet pour. somewhat chewy palate. grapefruit and floral as far as aroma and flavor goes... some nuts and toastiness, also. an interesting malt to back it up. however, despite the chewiness it seems light. definitely more on the hop side, though. not bad. meh. get rid of the chew and let this be more quaffable. UPDATE 3/3/05: musty, malty aroma of primarily nuts and toast. downfalls are it being ever so slightly acidic at first punch, and the aftertaste has a dry grapefruit flavor and feel that i don’t care much for. primarily dry, slightly chewy, grapefruit, with earthy minerals. Grays Granite IPA! uprated overall by 1 point. (this is good, but just not my kind of IPA.)
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 badgerben (4092) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - OCT 31, 2004
Amber color with a creamy head. Dusty hop aroma. This turns a bit floral in the taste. Not as bitter as one might think, but has a nice hop flavor.

Brown/Red Coloring. White Skin.. Hops in my Nose, Hops Like the Rose and Hops Curling my Toes... Some Malt in the Beginning But Pretty Much the Hops all the Way Baby... Not My Type...Where’s the Dunkels??
3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 BBB63 (4939) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - OCT 25, 2004
Bottle: Surprisingly deep amber ghue with lasting frothy head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of piney and floral hops, grapefruit and apple, caramel and pale malts, and earthy yeast esters. The taste starts malty and a been bready. The hops are there but subdued more than I would have wanted. The finihs is chalky and dry, with just a bit of bitterness. The taste and feel is a let down. Akin to the British style than the American.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Pigfoot (2266) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - OCT 12, 2004
Perfectly bronze in color, with a fizzy pale beige head that zips dwon to a fine film quickly.
Aroma, vague whispers of soft fruity suggestions hint themselves, ever so shyly, more malty than most in this component as well. Very sweet, even treacly, associations of maple, cherry, and more.
Taste: Nice little fruity hop fandango, a sweet shuffle on the palate, then, alas, it fades into the distance. Tiny trickles of bitterness, some bracing bites on the tongue, but not quite enough. Makes it smooth, easily approachable, and utterly ordinary. Flavor, not un-enjoyable, still lasts for a nice ride, and gives good marks for the finish, the drinkability, though the body thins out too much...yeah, it’s a decent IPA...but, some of us yearn for better than that!
