Rich in color with a strong body and a very creamy texture, the Oatmeal Stout is a true beer lover's brew. The slight hop aroma distinguishes this stout from any other. The Oatmeal Stout is robust, full of body and flavor, and topped off with a creamy light brown head.

A: The pour is a very dark brown, almost black, with a small tan head. S: Smells...bad. Like prunes and roast. Slight acidity to the nose with some acrid roast and coffee notes. There is some good sweetness of toffee and caramel, however. T: What a terrible flavor. Watery and vegetal with an astringency to it and a weak coffee flavor in the background. Not any chocolate to speak of, almost no sweetness is present either. M: Thin and watery on the tongue with a moderate level of carbonation. O: Watery and awful in flavor, not a good combination.

Pours an opaque black with a one finger thick brown/tan head. Nose is chocolate, molasses and malt. Nice and creamy on the palate, the flavor is full of dark roasted malt with touches of chicory and nuts. Hop profile is light but helps with a crisp aftertaste. Overall, a very good beer, but not quite a great beer. Pairs well with pretzels and stone ground mustard.

It starts out promisingly enough, with a healthy head and an aroma with a touch of chocolate to go along with a faint scent of hops. The body is light to medium and the texture thin, though, both of which are off for an oatmeal stout. The finish has a short, slight bitterness and then it disappears. Pretty dull.

Bottle. Aroma is coffee, caramel, toffee, chocolate, oatmeal, maple. Taste is heavy and roasty but smooth. Dry with a faint bitterness. A bit lacking on the palate but pretty solid.

An old favorite....pours almost black with a reddish tinge; sweet / burnt (good thing) taste; sweet nose. Hints of coffee and chocolate to me...a good one...will have another

Bottle poured a clear dark brown with a lastring tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, roasted malt, light vanilla and light coffee. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and a hint of vanilla with a smooth lingering roasty finish.

Was going to drink Big Skyís Slow Elk Oatmeal Stout, but the bartender convinced me to try this one instead. Iím not sure if he was doing me a favor, or finding a more expensive beer. It was good, of course, how couldnít it be?

On tap at the brewpub, pours black with a good head. Flavors of chocolate, coffer, somewhat bitter, and quite smooth throughout. Opt for the darker beers when ordering at Grayís.

Pours a deep dark chocolate color, basically black with a small but nice tight head. The aroma is very roasty almost like burnt starbucks style coffee beans, there is a little molasses sweetness in there as well with some mild chocolate notes. On aroma alone this beer beats the hell out of that Bully Porter. The flavor is sweet but not quite cloying, there is certainly some good mocha character and a bit of molasses. Iím not sure if there is any lactose sugar in this one but I would be more than willing to bet on it. After all this that burnt toast thing creeps up in the back and makes a serious impression at the finish. Generally speaking all the flavors work very well together here and itís really kind of cool how the beer does the sweet at first then suddenly bitter and overly roasty thing.
