Suttree (2267), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 24, 2005 Dark brown, small head. traditional porter smells and flavors - chocolate and coffee, plus a mildly spicy finish. Not bad. Thanks to Jewedekind for the trade! DocLock (4047), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 25, 2005 Thanks to Jewedekind for this. Jeez, in 11 months on ratebeer I’ve never had a "make it or break it" 10th rating. Now I’ve had 3 in the last 3 days! This one pours deep ruby with medium off-white head. Aroma of malt, chocoff, cabernet, slight spice. Tastes roasty malty, with some chocoff, spices, and nuts. Standard mouthfeel (reminds me a little of Ravell), with more chocolate and spices as it warms. civforprez (225), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jan 31, 2005 This beer pours dark with little head. Thin, this beer is also bready in flavor and aroma. Still, lacks complexity in flavor and aroma. BBB63 (3681), La Porte, Indiana, USA Aug 30, 2004 Bottle: Pours a reddish brown with a small tan head and some lace. The aroma has notes of caramel and toasted malts, aromatic and grassy hops, coffee, and soem berry esters. The taste starts bland with just your basic malt sweetness before a dose of coffe and hop bitterness shows. Remains the same throughout the glass. The feel is watery and fizzy. An average to below average porter, not much going on here. Maybe too old? JMerritt (1100), Macomb, Illinois, USA Jun 18, 2004 Dark ruby red/brown with a very small, spotty head. Coffee aroma with a sweet, fruity essence that I couldn’t put my finger on. Berries of some kind? Flavor was of roasted malt with a definite underlying berry and brown sugar sweetness. A tad overly carbonated. Dry finish. The mix of roasted malt and sugary sweetness doesn’t work in this.
