COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Considered by many master-brewers to be the most complex, rich style of brewing in the world, this Belgian “Dubbel” uses pure Belgian candi sugar, Belgian malts and a rare Belgian strain of brewer’s yeast to produce “esters”—flavors that range from clove to banana.

(Growler from brewery - lower score may have to do with transporting it back to Philly!) - Pours a cedar water brownish red with a sparse but large bubbled tan head. Malty sweet, raisin & banana aroma with not to subtle notes of alcohol. Relatively uncarbonated - smooth velvety texture. Malty sweet flavors with prominent candy sugar flavors along with yeasty banana esters. No real hop flavors at all.

A deep reddish copper ale with a thinlight moka head. In aroma, perfumey bubble gum, coriander and honey, not bad. In mouth, a sweet candy sugar with coriander, maple essence, treacle, a bit woody. On tap at brewpub, July 18 2010.

Draft: Poured a clear burgundy color ale with a medium foamy head with average retention and no lacing. Aroma consists of dry fruits with some caramel malt and fruity ester. Taste is a weird mix between sweet caramel malt with some fruity ester and dry fruits notes which are pleasant thought I thought the finish was way too sweet and somewhat unbalanced. Body is maybe a bit thin with OK carbonation and no alcohol was discernable. Overall this was an OK beer thought way too sweet for the style.

Very light color on the pour, little or not head from tap. Nice aroma, malty with some spice and banana. Decent flavor, nothing real outstanding but not bad either!

Bottled GABF sample. Amber colored brew with a full head of solid density. Nose is fairly nice, dominated by notes of bubble gum, dark fruits and caramel. Flavor is also fairly enjoyable and has decent complexity. Flavors of light red fruits while the yeast gives the illusion of spices (mainly cinnamon.) This is a pretty nice interpretation of the Belgian dubbel style.

TAP NY 2008. Amber color not quite clear. Belgian sweet aroma with some spices. A bit sticky sweet but has some fruit besides the dark malts. Not too heavy and not too much alcohol.
