Rich and complex-a blend of five malts gives this German Altbier its full body and satisfying finish. A two time medal winner at the GABF: Bronze Medal 1994 and 1995.

Bottle from Dart at Stateline. Pours rather copper with a slight beigeish head. Aroma is a bit meh. Arguably it’s malt. Near med body. Flavor is not so meh as the aroma, and the malt tries to be an alt - maybe it’s getting there. But all the ingredients don’t coalesce well for me. Finishes with a slight unpleasant flavor, but it’s drinkable, and arguably fits the style.

Dark copper colored body, thin white head, sparse lacing. Biscuity malts with some floral and honey sweetness. Relatively singular. Medium bodied with smooth carbonation and moderate sweetness throughout.

Type: Draft Glass: 10-oz. tulip From: Great Basin Brewing Company in Reno, Nev. Price: $4.25 Purchased: Oct. 31, 2014 Consumed: Oct. 31, 2014 Misc.: N/A Poured a dark caramel, brown color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki-white head. Light bubble streams coming up at spots. Spotty sporadic lacing on the sides of the glass. Average retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.75) Smelled pretty plain initially. Got German noble pilsner hops, not as good as a recent Stone beer I had with similar German noble hops. Light caramel, roasty nuts and toffee. (Smell - 3.25) Taste was much better than the nose, albeit less German pilsner hops and more roastiness. Also got caramel, roasted toffee, Octoberfest elements, plum, roasty nuts and bready malts. (Taste - 3.50) Medium body. Thin texture. Lively-to-fizzy carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.38) Just an average beer overall, not a great start or pick by me for Great Basin. Seemed to be a bit too cold for the style as well. (Overall - 3.38) 3.43 78 B-

A decent Amber. Pour a very clear Amber color with a thin white head. Smells good, fruity with some vanilla and Amber yeast. Taste is malty upfront, with a rather bitter finish that lingers. Had in the bottle.

"decent malty aroma, although you have to work for it. the flavor is more malty, but pretty well balanced and smooth, just a little on the lighter side. pretty much an average beer..."

Clean amber red color with a light but covering head. A light hop with a sticky grain aroma. Smooth with a slightly bitter sweet malt grain to the flavor. Leaves a sticky residue in taste and texture.

Pour is coppery brown with an off-white head. Aroma of bready malt, spicy hops, caramel/toffee, and a bit of chocolate and clove. Taste is bready malt, herbal/woody hops, a bit of chocolate, toffee, and some wet cardboard. Light bodied with moderately fizzy carbonation. Not too exciting.

Pours a thin head on a dark straw colored body. The aroma is musty grain, in the alt style. The taste has a grain flavor to it, but is overall watery. The texture is thin with moderate carbonation. It lacked real flavor. Boost that up a little and this wouldn’t be too bad.
