20-Jan-08 (Draft: Great Bear Brewing Co. in Wasilla, AK) A new amber beer at Great Bear, this has a fairly caramely and moderately sweet-smelling nose. Following suit, the flavor is caramely, medium in sweetness and mildly toasty. However, it’s very light on hop flavor and bitterness is very mild, so this amber isn’t very balanced or interesting. Medium in body and softly carbonated. Clear amber color with a small, off-white head that settles to a thin ring. Needs better hop balance to be a serious amber ale, but adequate for what it’s trying to be: a simple, easy quaffer for the masses.
