GABF. Pours a rich amber. Aroma is a nice blend of raisin and bread. Flavor is raisin, bread, and light hops. Palate is nice and coating. Good beer.

18-Jan-08 (Draft: 2008 Great Alaskan Beer and Barley Wine Festival in Anchorage, AK) Grainy and toasty nose doesn’t really give the impression of a barley wine. Toasty malts dominate with some background graininess and mild to medium sweetness. Medium-full bodied. Cloudy, golden in color, capped by a quarter-inch, white, foamy head that settles to a wide ring. With all these great English-style barley wines at this festival, this one doesn’t stand out.

On tap at the brewhouse bar, July 9. I’m a hop head, and none of the house offerings were even remotely hoppy, so I opted for the barleywine. Pretty light ambery gold color with small head and minimal lace. Flavor seemed a bit thin compared to other BWs I’ve tried. Not the best I’ve drank, but not the worst either. After I finished my pint, I could feel the warmth of the alcohol. Hope to make it back sometime to try other options that are more my style.

On tap at the brewpub as the Old Crustacean Barleywine. Pours a golden...light amber with a small white head. Aroma of some nuts, caramel, dark fruits and some hops. Flavor along the same lines. Tasted more like a barleywine than it looked and smelled.

@ Great Alaskan Barleywine Festival ’06. 2003 vintage. Ok nose, fruity. Date, fig, raisin, toffee. Orangy brown color. Sweet bitter flavor, like aroma. More caramel comes through than it does on the nose. Still fruity. Thick body, viscous oily mouthfeel, bitter smoky finish. Good, but I would of like to try it young as I don’t think it needed the age, IMO.

cloudy orangish brown nice off white head. English scent very buttery and malty lots of toffee.. Light carb good coating. Big toffee taste butter and grass. Very simple and to much toffee for my tastes.

On tap at the pub but rated from the sample at the 2004 Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival. Clear red orange color with a foamy egg shell color head. Rich creamy buttery mouthfeel. Carmel sweetness with smoke. Pleasant alcohol warmth when you exhale. I liked this one a lot.
