Tap. Near black. No real head to speak of it fades away so fast. Very sweet for a stout. Not much hoppiness, but not much roast either. More of a desert drink to me. Heavy, thick, and clean mouth feel.

Can at the Martin T tasting, CBC, 06/06/13 big thanks to Nathan the Brigadier for this share. Can badged as the aliased version ’Bourbons’ barrel stout. Mid black with a thin tan head. Nose is light roast, dark fruits, mineral notes, light chocolate. Taste comprises woody notes, dark fruit, touch of bourbon, chocolate, light roast. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry roasty finish. Ok impy but lacks a little depth to be a great.

I am a bit surprised that this is an imperial stout and not just an amped up coffee stout. It hardly belongs in the same ballpark as the heavy chewy releases that come to mind when I think of this style. Still, for the brewery this is what I have come to expect. A subpar offering is not worth purchasing more than a single can (if that).

Aroma / Appearance - The rich head surges for a while before it falls down like the foam that cleanses a scummy bathtub. Underneath the fluid black base sits idly and a bit lightly. Vanilla, black olives, dark coffee, and bittersweet chocolate mix good and bad. This is so-so at best.

Flavor / Palate - Peanut butter, vanilla, dark bittersweet malted chocolate, and light malts are robust for a standard stout but hardly the heady stuff of the big boys. The gentle finish leaves a calling card. It isn’t much though. In the end this is an example of a brewery that has plenty of room for improvement.

16oz can sent by Brigadier a little while back, thanks! Pours black with a thick light brown head and a little lacing in it, aroma is pretty sweet with a nice amount of chocolate with some of the bourbon coming through too, the flavor has a good amount of the bourbon on the front end with a sweet finish, a little bit of the oak comes through too, not bad at all.

Can courtesy Brigadier, thanks! Pour is ink black with a tan head, short retention/little lace. Aroma is of vanilla, chocolate, almond, pecan, roast. Taste is roasty, dark chocolate, vanilla, wood. Palate is soft, creamy, rich finish. A bit muddled but still good.

16oz can thanks tastybeer via Brigadier. Inky black pour, opaque, fizzing out reddish foam. Weak retention. Nose is heavy almond, praline, hazelnut, some volatile chemical flavors, butter, alcohol. Taste is sharp char, roasted, some paper, dense melted dark chocolate, more praline and hazelnut. Very good for ba stout in a can ;) Low points are volatile aromas and some paper on the palate. High point is the hazelnut / praline character. Lots of potential here.

1/31/13. Can. Pours dark brown-black with a small brown head. Aroma is roasty, vanilla, chocolate, creamy, bourbon, a touch of soy sauce. Taste is malty; roast, some bread, chocolate, bourbon, creamy, sweet. Very drinkable. ABV well hidden. Medium-low carbonation. Light-bodied and watery. My main criticism is that it feels light-bodied for the style. Though I did enjoy it and would certainly drink more of these.

Location/Date:Can on January 25th, 2013 during day 1 of Nerd Beer Epic Weekend.

Appearance: Pours dark opaque with brown/red head.
  Aroma: Aroma mostly bourbon.
Taste: Heavy on the bourbon making it sweet, some faint roast.
Palate:Medium light body, a little thin.

Summary: I think sometimes when a bourbon barrel aged beer goes overboard on the bourbon it just doesn’t work for me..that along with some thinness and the unfortunate situation(for the beer) of being had after Dark Lord made this one just okay.

Location: Can at Nerd Beer Epic Weekend, 1/25/13

Aroma: The nose is roasty and a little burnt, with some oak, vanilla, and bourbon
Appearance: This one pours a dark brown color with a small, light brown head and minimal lace
Flavor: The flavor has roasted and burnt malts, minimal sweetness, and a good amount of bourbon
Palate: Feels a touch light for the style, a little watery, pretty dry, and it has a fairly short duration
Overall Impression:  This one is pretty decent, but it just feels a little lacking (specifically in the palate). Good, but not a favorite for me in this style.

Pours a dark opaque rich black with a big airy mocha head. Aroma is whiskey, malt and chocolate. Taste is oaky, malty with hints of smoke and vanilla. Finish is abrupt and very dry. Drinks rather easily.Carbonation is soft with a heavy texture. Quaff Score 7 / 10
