COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Great Crescent Cherry Ale starts out as a lightly hopped all malt ale that receives a load of tart cherries in the secondary fermentation. This produces an exceptionally flavorful beer that is balanced and not overpowering with fruit. Our cherry ale uses tart cherries from the orchards of the American Midwest that are along the same variety as the cherry’s used for Belgian Kriekbiers. This beer is highly refreshing and exhibits the best qualities of craft-brewed ale - fresh and natural. This beer is crafted on a limited basis and is planned to only be sold in bottles.

Very mild aroma no cherry very slight. But I’ll give credit that this is real cherry not the fake extract thing. Cherry is very very strong in this beer. If you don’t like cherry, you’ve not tried to add berries to a beer and have it keep flavor, you will not appreciate what is happening in this beer. It is some tart, but the cherry stands out... They use a unique european bitter cherry. This makes an awesome Cherry Ale / Lambic. Taste is wonderful sweet cherry. Easy on the palate. This is one of the most unique beers i’ve found in the US!

Cloudy dark golden amber with light head covering and light lace. The pour was heavy on head, sucking on which produced the most pronounced tart cherry taste. The drink is light malt with a touch of cherry (even the color doesn’t show red). The taste is soft and reserved to the point of having very little taste at all. I’d heard this one isn’t a "fruit beer," and that’s correct - in fact, it’s hardly a beer.

16 ounce can. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours a cloudy amber/red color with a huge off-white head. I couldn’t get to pour the whole can into the glass at first as the head fizzed up so much. It took a while for the head to settle down before I could pour the rest of the can into the glass. Aroma is nice, but weak. The brew smells like some tart cherries and sweet malt. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, it tastes like tart and sweet cherries, and some sweet malt. However, just like the aroma, the flavor is nice but weak. Mouthfeel/body is low/medium, it’s a bit slick and creamy but has too much carbonation for my liking. Not bad, but just average overall. I’ll have to revisit this one in the future since I have no idea how old or fresh this can actually is. $2.75 for a single.

Pours deep amber and head is very retentive. Nose is toasted grains, light caramels and light refreshing fruits. Flavor is sweet malts toasted grains, and sweet and refreshing fruits. Light and dry finish. Pretty nice. I’m surprised.

Can. Light tart cherry and barley malt aroma. Reddish amber color with giant head. Lightly sweet red cherry but very little malt flavor. Not bad.

This draft brew from a beer festival poured a large sized head of foamy fine to medium sized light tan colored bubbles that were and left behind a strongly carbonated very hazy dark brown colored body. The mild aroma was cherry and woody. The semi-flat mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The strange flavor contained notes of cherry and malt. A decent one but not one that I would consider drinking again.

Draft sample at Great Crescent. Poured clear reddish amber color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate sour cherry malty aroma. Medium body with flat carbonation. Medium cherry flavor with a medium sour & sweet finish of moderate duration. Drinkable fruit beer.

Cherry and lightly malted aroma. Appearance almost resembles an elixir, unique. Definite cherry flavor, but almost wine-like in character. Palate was oily. Kinda light for my taste, but refreshing.

11/15/2008: Great Crescent Cherry Ale is not merely a beer with cherry flavor, it is obviously a beer brewed WITH cherries. It is amber brown with ruby hues and a thin off-white head. Subtle cherry pie can be found in the aroma. The base beer seems to have the characteristics of a soft amber ale. There is also real, slightly tart cherry in the flavor, but it isn’t overpowering or too sweet. Actually, I would have preferred a bit more cherry. This medium-bodied beer is smooth, soft, and mellow. Overall this is a well-crafted cherry beer, but I think some additional cherry would really make this beer stand out.

Draught sample at Great Crescent Brewery in Aurora, Indiana. Rating #1 for this beer...
