COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is based on the very first comercially brewed beer in the state of Indiana. ABV: 5.7% IBU: 22.7 The name of the brewer was George Bentel. His house is still standing in New Harmony. The Harmonist brewer and cooper, George Bentel, was born November 3, 1781 in Iptingen, the same village in the Swabian kingdom of Württemberg where George Rapp was born. Bentel lived at the northeast corner of Brewery and Grainery streets, where his house remains today, as upright as when Indiana’s first brewer marched out to make his beer almost two centuries ago.

Can. Brown body with garnet highlights. Fizzy, beige head, slowly diminishing. Aroma of roasted malts, raw grain, grass, canned vegetables. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter, a bitterness that lasts into the finish. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The aroma is better than the flavor which is mostly the taste of roasted malts with a hint of canned corn. Thin, simple beer. Bitter in the finish and not much else. Just OK.

Can. Weak chocolate malt aroma. Deep chestnut with a large tan, quickly dissipating head. Roasty chocolate malt flavor with a light weedy bitter finish. Light carbonated body.

Can. Tinny chocolate malt aroma. Dark chestnut color with small head. Slightly sweet chocolate malt and mildly bitter herbal hops flavor. Not a bad tasting beer - pretty light though.

Aroma of cocoa powder, toast, apple and light herbal hops. Appearance is dark brown with light bone head. Flavor is mostly cocoa up front; a bit of toast and herbal hops in the finish, the fruit doesn’t show up. Palate is bubbly and full-bodied. Another very drinkable GC beer, but this could have used an added dimension. Still, I could drink this beer all day.
