3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Brigadier (2240) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - MAR 24, 2013
16 ounce can
Having tried releases from both Great Crescent and Powerhouse I was not expecting anything great. This was slightly below average for either of them. It was not a drain pour but if I would have had other options handy I would have had no problems not finishing the can.
Aroma / Appearance - Carbonated and lively, the base sparkles like a glass of Dr Pepper. Rich ruby red liquid dribbles down the side. Raspberry, rhubarb, black cherries, and malt team to form a passable experience. It is nothing remarkable though that makes you want to sit back and savor the flavor.
Flavor / Palate - Honey and melon soften up the palate on the first sip. Next comes fruity textures that are overdone as if left too long to ripen. The combination of flavors tries to do too much with too little to be satisfying. This would have been a pass in other circumstances if it weren’t a local.

16oz can thanks to Brigadier, pours a clear dark reddish amber with an off white head, aroma is pretty weak overall, but has a little bit of candy sugar and a little bit of dark fruit, the flavor has some dark fruit on the front end with a litttle bit of caramel in the finish, kind of off overall, the mouthfeel is not great, pretty light, meh.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ContemplateBeer (1142) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - NOV 3, 2012
Draft sample at brewery. Aroma of sweet, bready malts, some chocolate, light apple/banana. Appearance is ruddy brown with bone head. Flavor matches the nose; the honey replacing the candy sugar produces an ale with some warm sweetness, but not overly so. Palate is bubbly and soft. Very good for the style.
