COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Great Crescent Witbier is refreshingly crisp wheat-based ale with a slightly dry, tart finish. It has moderate sweetness with spicy aroma’s and a hint of coriander and citrus. This beer is very light in color with a dense, white head and some cloudiness from a special yeast strain. This beer style has been around for over 400 years and originated in Belgium. The style died out about 60 years ago and has gained favor by many beer drinkers over the past 10-15 years.

UPDATED: MAY 20, 2012 Pint can from the brewery; re-rate. Aroma is slightly sweet with honey and some citrus; there is some very light tartness present. Additionally, there is some light spice, maybe coriander; hops are muted. Appearance is cloudy gold with frothy white head. Flavor matches the nose; the citrus and spice are most noticeable; tartness lurks in the background. The palate is really effervescent; you can tell Dan is a student of this style. Reminded me very much of the Belgian wits I have tried; a very well crafted beer.

Draft sample at Great Crescent. Poured hazy yellow color with an average fizzy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium clove wheat aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Medium sweet spice flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Refreshing brew.

11/15/2008: Great Crescent Witbier has good orange and subtle spice aroma and flavor. Both can be easily picked out, but neither are overbearing and both are well integrated into the flavor. It has a moderate level of bitterness that is probably higher than a typical Wit, but it is still quite good and works well for this beer. This golden-colored beer has a frothy, off-white to beige-colored head and fine, dense lacing. The body of this beer is medium-light and is soft on the palate. Overall this is a decent Wit.

Draught sample at Great Crescent Brewery in Aurora, Indiana. Rating #1 for this beer...
