TAP: Pour is murky brown/amber. Peat and earth come through on the nose with some malt. Tastes of caramel with some toasted malts, peat and soil. Taste is pretty tame/faint but aftertaste is bolder and is strong on the peat and almost swampy. I was hoping for more from a Scotch Ale.

Enjoyed on cask at the downtown brewpub. Dark body, peaty and roasty. Bubbles surround the typical cssk head. Served slightly warm as I would expect. A one-dimensional salty peat story which becomes a novelty. OK drinkability if you are into Scotch or this sort of thing.

On tap at doty. On cask. Bourbon aroma. Roasted malts, coffee, alcohol, bourbon. Served warm..I kind of liked it.

Cask at the Doty location, and served to a house-logo pint glass, with a dark brown/ruby highlighted color, modest, off white/light tan foam that reduced rather quickly to a ring & film, and left some light streaks & spots of lacing. The aroma was roastiness, some caramel sweetness, and earthy peat notes. The flavor was similar, with a medium+ body, low carbonation, some added, leafy tobacco hints, and a little dryness on the finish. Not bad.

Cask, it is a decent scotch ale, nothing really jumped out at me though, nice mouthfeel.

Apr 22, tap @ Great Dane Brewery, Fitchburg. Pours clear brown reddish with a longlasting beige head leaving lace. Aroma is malty, sweet, slighly roasted? and hoppy. Malty, pungent, slightly sweet, bready pleasant roud flavor. Finish is dry and tart.

On tap at downtown location, pours a murky dark brown with a very thin diminishing head, aroma is very sweet with malt and candy sugar, the flavor is more of sweet malt and caramel than anything else, meh.

Cask. Thicker than the tap version. Brown-orange. Big off-white/beige head. I get some butter in the aroma, but it works with the smooth caramel malt tones. Mellow cask non carbonation. Sweet with a touch of nutty toffee. Relatively true to style, hard to tell if the off flavors are intentional or not. OK, but sort of misses the mark too.

From a gravity keg @ Great Dane, downtown. Pours a murky brownish amber, small thin off-white head. Fruity and yeasty aroma with toasty and husky malts. The flavor is sweet, almost candy-like with some toasted malt and light roastiness. Thin texture due to the gravity serving, a little clingy. Not the best, but it was definately worth trying because of the gravity keg alone.

16 oz draft on tap at the brewpub (Madison, WI). Pours a pich black pour, opaque, bubbly tan head natural from the cask. Dies to a decent layer, fairly picturesque. Aromas are faint chocolate and caramel. A bit of sweetness, peat, and vanilla. Faint char and sugar with good feel. Initial is malty, peat and vanilla with caramel, a bit of sweetness, light coffee and chocolate. Vanilla and peaty caramel rule the day. Body is firm, a good cask ale, solid but sessionable. Good malts, faint bitterness, this really coats the palate for a cask ale. Pretty good!
