On tap at the brewpub in Madison, WI. This was decent with a good roasted malt, but a bit too sweet and not enough hop. Lots of cocoa, and sweet caramel in the light nose. Body was decently strong and well carbonated, but not quite as creamy as I would have liked. More nutty notes, roasted grains, and mixed dark cereal malts in the flavor. Overall, there’s some room for improvement I think.

On tap at the brewpub in Madison, WI. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma has lots of roasts, some sweeter chocolates and light caramels, and a light piney hopping. Flavor is similar. Roasty, slightly sweet from the chocolate and light caramels, and lightly hopped. Finishes dry and roasty with a light bitterness and a light malt sweetness before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Light body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent porter. Nothing special, but enjoyable and easy drinking.

On tap at Hilldale location. Murky brown. Smoky malt, coffee, toffee. Pretty light on the palate. Light roasted malt and a snap of smoke that finishes off the beer. Okay, but not altogether that great.

Dark brown pour, creamy tan head leaves a good lacing at first, but it dissipates. Roasted aroma, smoked, slightly ashen. Flavor is a significant contrast, first impression is tart cherries with a silken chocolate undertone, but as the glass proceeds, the malty flavors subside and the hops aromatics, primarily grapefruit, come to the fore. This porter is hopped to APA standards. Tasty, but the chocolate malt and citric hops clashed a bit. Palate is thin bodied but very smooth, with a lively hops burn.

Cask, dark brown, opaque in the center, brownish red translucent at the edges. Leaves some soapy lacing in sporadic webs. Soapy light tan head. Nice light, toasty ,nutty porter with a nice bitter hop finish, smooth creamy light cask feel.
