HonkeyBra (3390) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - OCT 8, 2013
Pint at the brewpub. Pours a bright hazed golden pour with a slightly offwhite head. Aroma of pine, citrus, nice fruit notes. Flavor is fruity with some pine hop heft. The sweetness of the fruit balances the hop bitterness well. Light, crisp, drinkable. Smooth, pillow body. Finishes on a mild hop bitter note.

Skyview (5215) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - MAY 4, 2009
On draught at the Great Dane downtown Madison location. Pours a clear golden pale colored brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thin white ring. Aroma of roasted bread dough, some flowery hops and a hint of caramel. Taste is medium bodied, some floral hops, a touch of caramel and some dried fruit. Finish has a mild bitterness that quickly disappears.

On Cask at the downtown Dane: Bright golden colour with a pretty modest head. Aroma has a certain breadiness to it. Mild hop notes trying to balance an otherwise noticeably grassy taste. Creamy of course all the way through. Finishes with some soft floral hops.

On cask at the brewpub on 6/22/07: Pours a clear bright golden with an airy, frothy white head. Lightly hopped pale malty aroma is fairly subtle. Body starts with a hint of sweetness and toasted caramel malt with a light balance of piny hops. Finishes thinner and bittersweet. True to style and drinkable.

Definitely fits the mold of an english pale ale. Light in color with a correspondingly light hop profile. Very smooth mouthfeel. Floral hops and balanced malts make this very pleasant to drink and very quaffable.

I was in the mood for a cask ale having just missed out on an interesting one the last time I visited. This time the only option was the Extra Pale Ale so I ordered a pint. It turned out to be not so bad and makes me look forward to the possible return of the cask ale tent at the Great Taste of the Midwest.

Aroma / Appearance - The hazy orange body was a bit murky but overall pretty transparent with a dash of head gracing the top. Pine, grapefruit and caramel stand out in the hoppy profile. A strong support cast includes oaky and maly notes. It’s not very complex but what should you expect from a pale ale?

Flavor / Palate - Watered down fruit punch Gatorade strikes the tongue on the first sip before the hops begin to appear. Pine and wood chips are most obvious but underneath is that oaky base. This is not a very complicated beer but at the same time I don’t think it was that bad either. For a warm summer day this would certainly be a good option. Once again the Great Dane has a good release that is usually available most of the time. Give it a try as part of a sampler if you are in town.

On cask. A nice golden pale with a frothy froth. Flowery in the nose with malty notes. Biscuits with honey. Flowery hops. Very nice pale. Creamy nature must be the "extra". High on the quaffability, just a might heavy for a session beer.
