COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named in honor of Fitchburg's first farmer, John Stoner's Oatmeal Stout is a good old-fashioned lesson in rich, creamy smoothness. Brewed with a high percentage of oats - which provides the creaminess - Oatmeal Stout is a sub-category of the Sweet Stout genre (as opposed to Dry Irish, Foreign, or Imperial Stout.) Various roasted and caramel malts lend the trademark sweet chocolate and coffee notes to this beer, while the special nitrogen-tap system delivers a dense head and emphasizes the smoothness.

Sure hope this is the right beer, it was listed just as "Oatmeal Stout" - Fresh growler: Opaque dark brown nearly black. Thick and dense, heavy set one inch chocolate brown top. Keeps its mass for a good duration and the lacing coats the glass in lots of thick webbings. Aroma is a very nice array of medium roasted malt, cocoa, oatmeal sweetness, and a small bit of frappucchino ice cream. Remarkabley clean and soft, yet holds its own weight with might. Taste is oh so nice, very well balanced, creamy and soft on the tongue with a general oaty sweetness that fits perfectly with the gentle amount of roast and chocolate. Surges of vanilla seep around the corners that helps add an addtional cookie dough, brown sugary sweetness among the top and finish. Smooth finisher, oaty sweet residuals slide off the end as caramel laced frappicchino roast mixes with vanilla ice cream. Wonderful taster! Feel is unbelieveabley thirst quenching in rich creamyness. Has delicate carbonation that soothes forever across the palate. Ice cream-like or perhaps a melted malt shake texture thats not overly thick for a stout but somehow keeps an eager, thickly set creamyness that wonderfully coats the entire mouth with silky oats, chocolate, vanilla, and lightly roasted creamed coffee. Great drinker too, smooth, soft, soothingly creamy with a thickness that makes you slow down a bit for full enjoyment. This is one outstanding Oatmeal Stout, possible one of the best Iíve laid my lips to. Its smoothness is beyond words, so silky and creamy with a good load of balanced flavors that are intensely mild. Absolutely awesome stuff!

(Fitchburg) Dark brown to black color. Dense cream colored head. Sweet malt and roasted malt, dark chocolate and touch of coffee aromas. Lighter feel, but creamy smooth. Dry and sweet malt flavors meld together. Dark chocolate, mocha and a touch of vanilla make for a pleasant quaff.

On tap at Great Dane - Fitchburg... nitro pour. Clear, deep garnet color with a 1+" well-retained, whipped beige head. Very thorough lacing followed this down. Sweet, roasty chocolate, oats, and a little coffee provided an exceptionally enticing aroma. Flavor was ideal for a sweet stout... milky chocolate, lactic notes, fresh coffee roast, and caramel was all present and exquisitely blended. Smooth, creamy, and medium-bodied on the palate with a well-placed coffee bitterness on the finish (along with some milk chocolate). Very, very tasty brew that went down quickly.

On tap downtown. Dark, dark black with a nitro creamy tall tan head. Chocolate comes out in the aroma along with some oat malt. Goor toasted chocolate and oat flavor with some of nutty sweet malt. I enjoyed two-thirds of this beer until the person behind me lit up and stunk up the place. Full creamy palate with a chalky finish.

This beer will have a big standard deviation as itís a completely different beer served (too) cold from the nirto tap than from a growler at proper temp. This rating is for the growler "version". Black pour, dull aroma of chocolate, stale coffee. Big roasted barley bite, sweet chocolate to balance. Adequate mouthfeel, could be bigger.

On tap at the Fitchburg location. Beautiful cascading waves from the nitrogen tap. Aroma is light roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is light chocolate, roasted malt and not much else. Creamingly smooth and simple but very enjoyable.

Black. Very black. Unsurprisingly, oatmeal in scent and taste. Very smooth, with a slight bitter aftertaste.

Near black color with a thin head. Sweet malt aroma with a pinch of oats. Oddly enough, it almost smells dry at the same time. Some roasts and dryness in the taste. It does finish a bit dry and alcoholic. Not a typical sweet stout.

Brown with a tan long lasting head. Light nose of sweet malts, chocolate and coffee. Creamy and thin with taste of roasted malts mixed with sweet malts. Itís ok.
