3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at the brewpub. The 2007 vintage was billed as a "chocolate milk stout". And so it was. Poured an opaque black color. The head was light brown with good retention and a lacing. Creamy and sweet on the tongue with some chalkiness at the end. Tasted of chocolate milk with a dash of coffee, very much reminiscent of Kahlúa. A bit much for me, but not bad.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JAN 7, 2008 Nitro pint at the brewpub. Obviously not the 2005 version of spice/herb/vegetable since it has no smell, taste or appearance characteristics in common, and they label it at the brewery as a chocolate milk stout. And guess what? It actually smells and tastes just like chocolate milk. It has a creamy nitro tan/brown head, with sticky, thick rings of foam left on the pint glass, and a deep black body. Nose has plenty of toasted malt, some oatmeal notes, some dry stout qualities, along with the unmistakable flavor and smell of chocolate milk, as advertised. Over time it turns more sweet than I’d prefer, but it’s a pretty solid dessert beer. I guess they got the effect right.
