COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It had to be done...Our brewers finally had to reject the notion that one of the world's most popular beer styles should only be available once a year. Found solely at The Great Dane at Hilldale, Notoberfest is indeed a true Oktoberfest beer, being brewed with 100% imported German malts and hops. Rejoice, and enjoy this silky, sweet treat all year long.

Clear, somewhere between copper and amber with an abundant off-white head. Leaves decent lace at first, desists from this practice in the lower half of the glass. Faint aroma, what’s there is just slightly malty. Flavor nicely crafted, malts balance resinous tea flavors with the sweet toffee flavors, just a hint of chocolate, lightly citric edge of hops. Medium body, pleasantly creamy.

On draught at the Great Dane Fitchburg location. Pours a clear copper amber brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring and some spotty lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, some toffee, flowery hops and a hint of roasted nuts. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of caramel malt, some toffee, flowery hops and a hint of honey. Finish is semi-sweet with some caramel and light bread dough aftertaste.

Sampled on draught at the Hilldale location: Pours a clear red colour with a full two finger sized off white head. Aroma is rich and malty, carmel, hops and floral character. Taste is semi sweet, bready malts and biscuit flavors, faint licorice.

(Hilldale) Amber color with a smaller off-white head. Mild toasted malt and light floral hops aromas. A touch too sweet for the style. Fairly light and a bit fizzy in feel. Caramel flavors and a rather bitter hard linger.

I never thought the GD made a very respectable Oktoberfest to begin with so I am surprised they’ve made it a standard at Hilldale. A pretty much run-of-the mill amber in my book, not a lot of maltiness, probably made to appease more than explore. Drinkable.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2008 Draft at the downtown location. I’ve had this a few times. Poured a clear medium orange color. The head was thin, white and left nice lace behind. Aroma was of light noble hops and cereal grain. Light bodied and delicately sweet. The flavor profile was similar to the aroma with added hints of brown sugar and toffee. Decent.

On tap at the downtown location. Poured clear lighter orange with a short-lived cap of white head. The aroma picked up toasty caramel and lighter fruits with pleasant floral and leafy hoppage.. sweet overall, and well-done. The flavor was similar to the nose.. caramel, some fruit, and light toffee at the core with floral and herbal bitter accents.. sweet, somewhat refreshing finish. A tad shy of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation and OK balance.. sticky finish. Good stuff.
