(Tap) Sampled at the downtown location at the end of October. Pours amber in color, with little head. Sweet malt and spice aroma. Surprisingly, I got some nutmeg and earthy notes in the aroma. Taste is more subdued, with typical sweet malt aromas. At times, it seemed a little bit grainy. Average mouthfeel and easy to drink. Not bad, but pretty average in most respects.

My sis picked up a growler of this when up in Madison recently. Pours a great red-amber color, medium carbonation with a foamy off while/cream colored head. Aroma is very heavy of Munich malt, slight apple fruitiness and a real heavy nutty aroma. Flavor was very nutty up front then moves into a sweet caramel malt flavor and finishes with a solid alcohol presence. Overall a great example of an Oktoberfest lager.

On tap at the brewpub downtown. Pours an amber color with a white head. The aroma is light with a malty sweet grain note. Malty sweet caramel, toffee, and marzen flavors that are mild but drinkable.

Draft at Great Dane (downtown). Poured a clear medium orange color with a white head. Smelled of noble hops, grass, and dry cereal grain. Light to medium bodied and slightly sweet with moderate carbonation. The flavor was similar to the aroma; light grassy/noble hops, cereal grains, and subdued toffee. Pretty standard.

Translucent and amber brass in color with a sudsy off-white wrung and a ice sheaf cap shaped in the form of male genitalia. Caramel and brown bread star in the subtle aromatic showcase along with clean, buffed pecans and a hint of light mocha cocoa powder. This aromatic anthem of toffee brittle can hang with the best of ‘em. Full bodied testament hits chocolate dust scattered amidst the pecans and hazelnuts. Creaminess takes us to dynamic toffee bark levels with chocolate enveloping slightly spicy pecans at its sides. Caramelized, light rye bread and a chewy autumn pie crust work well together, and the sogginess from their dressings is very palatable. Slowly roasted bran with drizzles from liquefied pralines make their flavorful presence known at the perfectly precise time. Brown sugared oats smooth it out in the end, giving a signature wholesomeness to this well crafted rendition.

Sample at Pub. Orange body. Aroma and flavor was sweet with little spice. Like that mild spice, some seem to spicey.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Festival sampling. Clear brown body. Chocolate-sweet malt aroma with caramel syrup notes. Lesser malts in the flavor, tending more towards the core grain rather than the sweet wort. Dry smoked malt finish.

An Oktoberfest on tap in April? Ok. It poured a dark amber with an average size white head that diminished. Sweet malt aroma, some caramel malt? Flavors of caramel and apple, sweet all around. Feel is on the watery side of oily, perhaps slick is a good word.
