2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 shigadeyo (2399) - Harrison, USA - SEP 15, 2009
9/05/2009: Great Dane Pine Marten Red... Aroma: Pine hops and some citrus; some sweet toffee maltiness underneath the hops. Appearance: Murky brown color with a yellow tint; dense, 1-finger, near ivory-colored head. Flavor: Heavy maltiness paired with a weird, chessy hoppiness. Palate: Medium to medium-full body; average palate. Overall: This beer smells good and unfortunately better than it actually tastes.
Draught at The Great Dane Pub & Brewing Co. in Madison (Hilldale), Wisconsin. Rating #2 for this beer.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Thorpe429 (3823) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - NOV 27, 2010
On tap at the brewpub in August 2009. A sign in the bar’s interior informed visitors that the beer was named in honor of Wisconsin’s pine marten. Pours a copper amber and smells of citrus and pine (of course) hops; the smell is similar with pronounced pine hops and a little bit of caramel/amber malt in the background. Good amount of carbonation on a light to medium body with good all-around drinkability.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JPDIPSO (4957) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 23, 2009
Red to copper in color with a smallish off-white head. Aromas of dough, toffee and fairly sharp fresh hops. A bit green so to speak. Caramel to toasted malt flavors in the front. Hops come in the middle with citrus zest and pine. THe hops don’t take over but add a little to the flavors. Fairly crisp finish with a bit of hops bite. Reminds me of a decent Irish red ale.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Skyview (4880) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - AUG 30, 2009
On draught during Great Taste of Midwest 2009 in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear copper amber colored brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that leaves behind a thin ring. Aroma of citrus hops, a touch of pine and caramel malt, Taste is more like an American Pale ale, with some citrus and grassy hops, a hint of caramel malt and a touch of spice. Finish is mildly bitter with a short lived citrus aftertaste.
