4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
An excellent beer. Was pleasantly surprised by the malting complexity of this brew. Had it at the Wausau Great Dane on tap. The aroma was inviting but not overly chocolate. Taste was a good array of malts and caramels, not overly chocolate by any means. A very nice easy drinking ale. Seems to have high ABV as well.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Great Dane Fitchburg. Dark copper with a thin tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, toffee and lightly smoked malt. Taste is fruity with toffee, sweet malt and mild alcohol, nothing much peaty or smoky. Okay.

Another seasonal put on, enjoyed on tap at the downtown brewpub. Amber body with a bit of head. Malty aroma. average mouthfeel. Complex malt story.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
8/14/11. On tap at the Madison airport. Clear light brown pour with basically no head. Somewhat subdued aroma of caramel and burnt sugars. Bolder flavor of caramel, burnt sugar, and a touch of smokiness that borders closely on tasting like plastic. Not bad.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the downtown brewpub. Pours a mostly clear, amber-brown colored body with a finger-width, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is a bit sweet with some caramel, creamy vanilla, a light toffee, and a touch of peat. Flavor is better. Smooth and somewhat creamy caramels with a light toffee sweetness and some vanilla. Nice, peaty earth comes in with the sweet malts and balances well. Finishes with a light sweetness and fairly creamy, but pretty dry with a light, peaty, earthy bitterness. Medium length aftertaste following a smooth, medium body and pretty creamy, moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty standard, but tasty scotch ale. A bit sweet, but well balanced with enough peaty earth. Not bad.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This was my favorite of the day. It poured a dark amber that was almost brown. The aroma was deep caramel and vanilla. The flavor had milk chocolate, caramel and vanilla. Not a bad scoch ale

2.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20
More band-aid tasting beer. Scotch Ale’s seem to consistently treat my tongue that way. Not a good thing, FYI.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at brewpub, pours a clear amber with thin head, aroma is dissapointing with hardly nothing there, overall has a weak malt flavor and doesn’t blend the scotch all that well, meh.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewpub: Pours a dark amber , with a very modest off white head. Aroma of caramel malts, peat. A touch of bitterness , medium body here. Flavors are different, but this would be my first scotch ale. Caramel malt, toffee, peat again. Finishes fairly smooth- not bad.
