UPDATED: NOV 18, 2007 On tap at the brewpub on 6/22/07: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a thin-lacing wispy off-white head. Aroma of sweet earthy caramel malt with lightly smoky peaty complexity. Body starts with a viscous sweet dark caramel maltiness with some light fruity esters and a full, yet smooth finish with lingering seaweed and smoke. A very nice Scotch ale.

On tap at JPDIPSO’s: Pours a dark copper with a thin, wispy, off-white head. Aroma has some dry, peaty and caramel malty notes. Body starts with some mildly sweet caramel malt and dry peaty flavor with a thin palate and finishes with a touch of English hops. A pretty average Scotch ale.

On tap at Great Dane - Fitchburg. Pour was a clear ruby with a short beige head and some nice lacing. Crisp caramel, toasted nuts, and some flowery noble hoppage found the nose... very nice. Floral hops, butterscotch, and sweet caramel were there for the flavor... rather heavy malt backbone... and a hint of alcohol around the edges. Smooth on the palate, but a little tacky at the finish and the alcohol presence was a bit heavy at the end. Aroma and flavor both picked up some earth character as this warmed. Certainly enjoyable.

8/14/11. On tap at the Madison airport. Clear light brown pour with basically no head. Somewhat subdued aroma of caramel and burnt sugars. Bolder flavor of caramel, burnt sugar, and a touch of smokiness that borders closely on tasting like plastic. Not bad.

Tap at the brewpub. Orange amber pour with a small clingy head. Lots of caramel sweetness. Some bread. Quite tasty - and very drinkable.

Served on draught at the Wisconsin Micro-brewers Beerfest in Chilton, Wisconsin. Pours a clear copper amber brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of multi-grain and caramel malt, a touch of peat, smoked wood and a touch of herbal spice. Taste is slightly sweet, medium bodied with very light carbonation, along with flavors of multi-grain malt, peat and a touch of vanilla bean. Finish is also semi-sweet with a malty after taste that slowly disappears.
