UPDATED: MAR 25, 2013 Amazing black pour with lingering beige head. Tart cherry taste over balanced by huge malts. Its like drinking the really bad Belgian cherry red , but with an english barleywine/abt quad body. Quite a mess.

Shared bomber, poured to snifters showing a ruby highlighted, darkest brown color, with a modest layer of bubbly, brownish tan head foam, and spotty lacing. The nose was roasted, dark chocolate notes, and a touch of sweetness. The taste was similar, tart & sweet, with black cherry notes, medium+ bodied, somewhat hidden alcohol warmth, and hop bitterness that was also hidden, but made an appearance with pleasant dryness toward the finish. Very tasty! I also appreciated the freshness of the esters, rather than the artificial/cough medicine variety of many other similar brews.

Aroma is dark malts, fruit and an almost imperial stout quality. The flavor is dark fruit, cherries, malts, very slightly sticky, medium sweetness and a warming alcohol finish. Not what was expecting, this was almost a imperial stout/barley wine hybrid, interesting.

Bottle:   Black, thin frothy beige head, nice lacing.   Black Barley Wine is right!   Strong unsweetened cocoa nose, dark chocolate, dried cherries.   Doesn’t smell very sweet, hoping for more sweetness on the tongue.   Mild sweetness on the tongue, thankfully.   Strong dark chocolate and dried black cherries.   Malty background, low hop, dark chocolate, and dried cherries linger.   Some heat on the exit.   Like Unleashed #1, not as thick as I would have thought for the ABV.   Needs to be a bit thicker, sweeter.   Would certainly trade some of that for less ABV.   Thanks Bob!

Bomber. Poured very deep brown with a creamy, well-retained dark tan head. The aroma picked up sweet biscuit, molasses, and chocolate notes with accents of chocolate-covered cherries.. smelled a little on the sugary side, but I can’t say it wasn’t decadent. The flavor found sweet chocolate, vanilla, cream, and molasses at the core, with peppery alcohol and cherry dust laced throughout.. tangy licorice and cherry skins on the long, kind of sharp finish. Medium-heavy bodied with prickly carbonation and sharp, tangy bitterness.. dried out at the end.. transitions didn’t work very well.. very big overall, but it didn’t quite work.

Sampled at an rsbls tasting. Very dark red brown. This is cherroes then chocolate and then some sour funkiness. Tartness in the after taste and the finish. I wish the cherries were sweeter.

Black barleywine with noticeable cocoa along with the standard caramel, cherries add a slight fruit touch. Boozy.

22oz bottle from mnmike, really not what I thought this beer would be at all, I was expecting your big caramel boozy syrupy barleywine with subtle hints of cherry, what I got was an astrigent mix with fake, artificial cherry flavor which stuck out like a sore thumb...

Courtesy of Skyview. Black color with a small head. Aroma of chocolate and some cherries. Pretty much the same in the flavor, just lighter. Quite boozy.

Picked up a single 22-oz bomber from Riley’s Wines of the World in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours an opaque dark reddish brown colored brew with a decent sized tan head that slowly dissipates to a creamy off-white top and excellent lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate malt, cherries, a hint of caramel and floral hops. Taste is full bodied, some alcohol presence, along with flavors of chocolate malt, caramel , cherries, and some tart berries. Finish is quite sweet as expected in an English-style barleywine, with aftertastes of chocolate malt, floral hops and a continued dried cherry aftertaste.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2013 Bottle from mnmike. Pours black with a boozy-cherry aroma. Flavor is cherry with a stout like after taste. Reminds me more of an imperial stout. Nice beer, definitely.interesting.
