Great Dane’s Uber Bock is a rich, strong, malty, medium- to full-bodied bottom fermented beer with low to moderate hops levels. Don’t look for a lot of flowery aroma or bitterness in this beer! The two base malts for this beer are Light and Dark Munich Malt, grown in Germany, these malts have significantly more depth and flavor than your typical pilsen or pale malts. This is combined with some Crystal and Honey Malt to add to its complexity. It is mashed in Twice so that the maximum malt sugar can be extracted and put into one beer. In the end the depth of character is front and center on this beer but the mistake and awesomeness is that it is BALANCED! It’s not too sweet, or too dry or too alcoholic!

On tap at Great Dane - Wausau and again in bomber form. Poured a lovely shade of garnety-amber with a tight-bubbled, smoked beige head. The aroma picked up semi-sweet toffee, caramel, and wildflower honey with peppery notes, herbal character, and toasted fruity accents.. warm, and I really enjoyed it. The flavor found chewy darker grain bread, caramel, and honey at the core, with peppery notes and some rougher alcohol around.. finished with a nice blend of grainy malts and a shot of booze. Medium-plus bodied with lower carbonation on the palate.. good balance, but rougher toward the back.. overall a very solid brew.

Bottle 65 cl. Pours a cloudy amber with a small, off-white head. Rather subdued aroma, a little caramellish malts. Rich, sweet malty body, lovely burned caramel and a warming alcohol finish without much bitterness. But a neat Bock alright. 081114

Bottle:   Darker caramel, thick, moderate foamy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Rich sweet malty nose, some dark pitted fruit, bready, sweet biscuit notes.   Sweet start, malty, bready, biscuit, and very much a strong Bock type of beer.   Clean, thankfully not mealy or cloying.   Comes across as a big sweet bready, biscuity, and malty beer.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Finishes clean, thick, bready, sweet but not cloying, with strong biscuit notes.   10.1% really?   Surprisingly tasty for such a big bock and not being overly sweet or cloying.   Thanks Bob!
