A snappy pils with more hoppy bitterness than malty sweetness. A bit of caramel and, hmmmm, maybe lemon on the aroma. Enjoyed on tap with the kick-butt meatloaf at the original Great Dane.

Thirsty Troll Brew Fest. Pour is gold with a white head. Aroma shows pale malt and grassy hops. Flavor shows pretty much the same with maybe a touch of citrus hiding in the background. Overall body is light, crisp, and finishes with light bitterness. Nothing offensive, just not very interesting.

A golden lager with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, a light acidic malt with light German hops. In mouth, a nice crisp malt with German hopping, boring. On tap at Madison airport location, Jan 22 2012.

On tap at the Wausau GD. Served a mid gold with a nice frothy head that faded slowly to a nice lacing. Aroma was of malt and hops. Taste was similar with Pilsner-like hop predominance but mild, not bitter, in nature. The mouth was decent. Overall, a decent pilsner.

On tap at the downtown brewpub. Neutral aroma, light coloured but noticeably lacey. A decent drinker, with a mild bitterness as denoted by 13 IBU. Serviceable sessionable, at 5.4% abv.

Sample from the Great Dane pub at Hilldale. Clear light golden with minimal head. Very much a light beer or as my friend stated "this tastes like dirty water." I couldn’t even finish the sample.

8/14/11. On tap in the Madison airport. Very clear light golden pour with a small fluffy white head and plenty of lacing. Subtle aroma of graininess with a touch of earthy hop. Biting flavor of pilsner grain and earthy hops. Not bad!

Great Dane Verrückte Stadt German Pils
Got a 64 ounce branded growler of this not 24 hours old as a gift.
Pours into my stange with a nice fluffy white three finger head. It sticks around for awhile before leaving some very nice lacing behind. This beer is pale pale gold, and very clear and bright. This is perhaps the clearest most filtered looking beer I’ve ever seen. It looks like a stalwart German pilsener.
The scent is very grassy and floral, more american pilsener style. There is also some malt.
Taste is very American styled pilsener. It is bursting with malt sour lemon fruitiness and some grassy spice. Like most American pilseners it is totally unrefined in taste compared to its European counterparts with some diacetyl. This one is very light on taste, would make a good summertime quencher as it goes down extremely easy though its not that much of a pleasure to down.
The mouthfeel is smooth, with some wateriness and a nice balance of carbonation.
Overall its a malt bomb of a pils with that typical American, go-over-the-recipe-once-then-brew-it scheme.

On tap at brewpub, pours a pale yellow with no head, aroma is sweet and smells like crackers, flavor is overall bland and boring but has a crisp finish, meh.

Draft at the downtown brewpub. Sample. Super thin green yellow. Soapy head. I detect some buttery, off flavors. Soft, pleasant body. The off flavors really kill this one for me. Buttery, infected, whatever.
