3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 11, 2013 Pours a clear golden yellow on tap with thin lacy white cap and moderate lacing. Atoms is clean sweet wood, piney west coast hops. Taste is like a white oak jai alai but sweeter on the back end. Damn good stuff.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Out of the bottle dated April 19 2013 - clear brassy orange with a small amount of off-white bubbles, virtually no lacing. Aromas of booze, toffee, birch, caramel, some pine, sugar cookie(?) The flavor is rich and sweet, buttery, and warm, which opens with quick toasty bitterness. As it warms it gives notes of bourbon. Great strong beer on a frigid December eve...

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pale orange body with white head and lacing. Aroma of vanilla, birch and butter. Taste is a wonderful butter and caramel and a bit of hot booze, barley-wine-esque characteristics here as well. Great beer.

En mycket speciell öl. Väldigt mycket smak och en rejäl beska. Den har en ton i beskan som känns tämligen avvikande. God? Nja.

Shared with my wife on our (drum roll, please) 19th anniversary. (Awwwww) Fortunately the marriage hasn’t been as disappointing as this beer was. No sign of birch, just syrup, rendering this a sweet, sticky bottle of meh.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared at The Kernel - many thanks to Colin Soprano. Pours clear yellow with a frothy white head. Nose of pale bread, mild straw and ripe lemon. Big sweet flavor with rich, bready malts, faint honey and caramel. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Very sweet to finish with more rich pale bread, some pine needles. So so.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, thanks to Colin. It pours pale gold with a thick white head. The nose is sherbet, orange, mandarin, tangerine, straw, hay, cream cheese and Hovis biscuits. The taste is bitter, piney, hay, straw, white grape skin, grapefruit, alcohol, peppery and tangerine skin with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. A bit hot perhaps, but still pretty tasty.
