COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To celebrate the brewery’s 19th Anniversary, Great Divide’s brewers deviated from previous years’ anniversary ales and developed an entirely new recipe. The label reads, 19th Anniversary Ale isn’t just a wood-aged ale. It’s a compass – a reminder of where we’ve been and where we’re going. Brewed with pure birch syrup and aged on birch wood, this beer embraces reverential tradition and revolutionary innovation. As we celebrate our 19th year, we hope you’ll join us for the road ahead.

Very balanced strong ale. Good head, excellent lacing. I can taste the birch aging in the beer! High AVB at 10.2 but not overpowering. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Almost a brandy wine light ... But better! Pours surprisingly light in color. Sweet caramel and toffee flavor that is a bit syrupy. This is highlighted by a wonderful smokiness. Bit of alcohol warmth, and just a hair of a boozy edge. I like it! A- ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Floral aromas, lots of sticky pudding, toffee, cake. Natural sweetness, candied pear, burnt orange, pleasant alcohol. Balanced, deft, and really long. To my taste, not overly sweet and not slick.

Complex aroma of wood, spices, raisins and smoke liquor. Reddish copper in appearance with almost no foam. Very interesting funk flavor with notes of sour maple, tangy citrus, plums, slick molasses and cinnamon. Finish leaves a lingering booze, biscuit and hop resin on the palate. Overall, this is an acquired taste. That being said, I find this a wonderful piece of art. Very complex flavors (some of which are difficult to pinpoint.) A nice change of pace. Well done Great Divide, congrats on 19 years of deliciousness.

On tap at brewery, poured a hazy golden hue w/ a large rocky well retained white head and heavy layered lacing. Heavy aromas of tropical fruits, coconut, mango, apricot, toffee, caramel, peach, and birch. Initial flavor is heavy sweet w/ a moderate bitter finish of moderate duration. Tastes are sweet toffee, caramel, coconut, mango, apricot, peach, resin and birch syrup. Full bodied, syrupy with a thick mouth feel, mildly astringent, and moderate alcohol dryness in the finish, average carbonation. An enjoyable sipper that unfolds as it warms.

22oz bomber pours with a clear deep gold body that supports a white head of foam. The aroma offers up apricot, peach and pineapple hop like fruitiness as well as cedar to oak wood spiciness. Nice balance where the wood is there but doesn’t overwhelm. The taste has rich inviting notes going on like malt sweetened peach and mango and cantaloupe. Those notes are punctuated by spicy oak wood just as the hop bitterness makes it to the surface. Nice tasting stuff.

Bottle @ home picked up at Supermarket Liquor Fort Collins. Pours a bit hazy, golden orange appearance with a spidery, cream colored head. I really love the sappy, nutty, birch element in the nose. It kind of has that fresh woody aroma that you get walking around a furniture store. A bit goopy/syrupy mouth feel. The flavor really does have a grainy woody flavor to it along with birch syrup (I would say maple syrup without knowing better), toffee, big caramel, vanilla, very nutty notes. Definitely a strong beer but doesn’t finish super strong though you can taste that the alcohol content is definitely there. I guess there is some warming on the finish. Really front and forward in this beer is a sappy, grainy wood element that I find much more enjoyable than I expected. This has passed on my initial assessments, but I now need to check the chuggability and ability to get buzzed quick. Update: Not chuggable in a Bud Light Lime sense but pretty easy to slam. Rest In Peace, Ray Manzarek. Cheers Until Next Time!

Split a 12 oz. pour with Westmeister at the Brick Store. Poured a light orange with white head. The nose remind me of Strawberry Bonkers; children of the eighties will catch my reference. The sweet yet bitter flavoring mix well with the booze. The mouthfeel is flat and viscous. Very enjoyable beer. Draft - Brick Store Pub - Decatur, GA
