3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 kwoeltje (1851) - Manchester, USA - AUG 12, 2009
(bottle) nice deep amber color with small quickly fading head. Aroma is pine and smoked oak, some malt sweetness. Flavor is overwhelmed by the wood unfortunately; a little vanilla and pine hops in there as well, but too unbalanced for me.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 PhillyCraft (657) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 31, 2012
17th Anniversary sampled last year, poured a deep, murky, orange amber color with thin ring of head. Lacing was very good and sticky, with full sheets of spider white goodness. Aromas of caramel, candy sugar, vanilla, pine. Taste was an awesome blend of rich barley, crystal and caramel malt, vanilla, cocoa, strong hops. Finished a little bitter and dry.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 MarinaMarket (177) - POULSBO, Washington, USA - MAY 30, 2012
Amazing aroma from the bottle. Wood, malts, hops, pine, and citrus. It’s almost over-whelming. Pours dark amber with thick off-white head, and excellent retention. Looks sticky. Flavor is moderately complex with a fair amount of bittering hops, oak, ash, carmelized sugar, and resinous hops on the finish. And yes, it is a bit sticky. Very nice mouthfeel. I also get some heat on the end, but not unpleasantly so. Overall, well balanced, slight tart, and this would go really well with a gourmet burger. Tasted from the bottle @ 54F.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 wilderthanyou (608) - Guelph, CANADA - MAY 26, 2012
Pours a burnt orange with a slightly off white head, moderate retention. The aroma is awesome, oak is evident, but the hops still shine, with grapefruit and pine, balanced by sweet malt toffee notes. The flavour begins with a touch of hops and oak, then malty sweet toffee goodness takes the reigns, fading slowly back to some resinous hops mixed with a touch of toffee and oak. Oak dominates the finish until the next sip. At first syrupy but after the swallow it has a dry mouth feel. Not super complex in my opinion, but very enjoyable none the less.

This IPA was on point. Similar in flavor and palate I the Hercules double but unique with the wood aged hints. Great job.

Pours a clear dark amber with a tight eggshell colored head. Has a malt nose, caramel and brown sugar with notes of vanilla, pine and some floral hops. I’m not picking up much of the wood in the taste. It’s kind of sweet and malty. Some spicy pine hops and juicy grapefruit and orange notes. This is not your typical Double IPA. It’s not bad, but definitely not one that stands out.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 reverendj (161) - Brunswick, Georgia, USA - MAY 25, 2012
MMMMMMMMMMMMMM! Freshly split oak, some musty funk, bourbon barrel, and faint floral hops present on the pour with minimal head but good lacing. The alcohol is very evident up front played well by the oakiness and sweet malts. The hops show up on the back end followed by a warming sweet sensation. An unexpected addition is the almond biscotti and vanilla. Glad I bought a growler of this superb brew.

17th Anniversary stuff. Amber-orange colour, a bit hazy, minimal milky head. Aroma of hops, pine and oak woods, citruses, grapefruit, cheese-like yeasty notes Taste of tropical fruits, malt, almond bitterness, coconut. Aftertaste is vanilla, sweet cookies. Very good, interesting brew.
4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 calm_dreamer (10) - GREECE - MAY 23, 2012
17 anniversary edition. Grassy smell of hops with a great tone of malt extract. The taste is of nature and malt and hops. The foam goes away soon. Awesome ipa.
