Described as oak-aged claymore, pour was dark red with off white head on tap at the brewery for Firkin Friday. Aroma brought notes of smoke, oak, caramel, some burnt toast and earth notes in there as well. Taste was a nice mix of smoke and molasses, hints of oak and slight vanilla, some earth and burnt notes, finishes fairly sweet. Not bad, wish the oak came in a bit more but fairly good.

9/25/09 notes: on tap, brewery. A special release, I believe. Poured into a snifter, dark red-black with almost no head. Aroma is a rich array of peat, malt, and vinegary notes. Flavor is full, with cherry and grape skin complementing and playing against the smooth dark chocolate, wood and caramel. Overall, a darker, bolder version of Claymore.

Pours a smokey burgandy, lacey bubbles atop. Nose was quite interesting...malty, smokey, and toffeeish but with underlying sourness and vinious. Malty flavors in the toffee realm with woody sourness, dark grape, with some sweetness...reminscent of dimetab. Not too shabby though, really.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Kevin (1979) - Colorado, USA - SEP 20, 2009
strong barrel notes. over the top, but it works. the sweet caramel really comes out, toffee, vanilla, shit ton of whiskey barrel, some marshmallow notes in the finish. . was pleasantly surprised by this, smelled like a barrel bomb, but this worked. tastes hotter than it is at first, then mellows as this warms. by the end of the 2nd or 3rd glass so did i. hopefully more of this will be around next time.
