Pours (almost) black with a small beige head. Very, very nice sweet aroma of choclate, sweet coffee, whisky, wood, raisins and warming alcohol. Well balanced taste with again chocolate, raisins, vanilla, whisky. Warming, soft alcohol. Complex, but very soft, like velvet. This is superb!

Bottle 216. Had a great tasting with some beerfriends. Dark black plus lovely red colour. Smells lovely deep, chocolate, great wood notes and a bit roasty. Tastes is a godlike combination of hops, and roasty chocolate. Full body, great carbo, soft to the throat and a bit warming.

Smells of toffee vanilla and bourbon. Very fast dissipating tan head. Initial sip is effervescent tree fruit, figs, flavor keeps dancing on the tongue from the carbonation. Finishes with that classic english strong ale aged flavor married to the bourbon wood it was aged in. Donít miss out on this. Best rating of my career so far.

Bottle: #216/492: Thanks to Joes for sharing. Small off white/light brown head/lacing on top of a deep dark amber brown colored beer. Smell whiskey, wood, sweets, molasses, raisin, butter, soft, cream, butterscotch, toffee, caramel, vanilla. Taste whiskey, dark chocolate full caramel, toffee, vanilla, butter, butterscotch, bitter, sticky malts, cream, soft, hint of raisin and prunes, oak, molasses. Good full aftertaste: bitter, whiskey and soft and smooth spicy. Low carbo, full body, velvet mouthfeel and an oily texture. Soft and smooth smell and taste, very well balanced, delicious!

October í09 edition. Bottle #83 of 492. Drank 1/13/12. Pours a ruddy dark amber brown with no head and minimal lacing. Good medium carbonation. Nose was a grilled pineapple, oak, some vanilla, subtle chocolate, and a riot of bourbon aromas. Alcohol was very tame on the nose and extremely well integrated in the taste and mouthfeel. Taste of mostly toasted coconut along with some oak, bourbon, toffee, and dried dark fruits...almost Mounds Bar like. Incredibly long and balanced. I had read some reviews with people saying this was past itís prime, but there was still plenty of life in this one, but it was cellared properly since I bought it at the brewery in í09. Amazing beer.

Sample at the RateBeer Party at GABF! Itís first rating! Nose of oak, vanilla, floral hops, dark fruit, toffee, and a slight hint of bourbon. Hazy brown with a medium beige, glass lacing head. Flavor of oaky vanilla, toffee, toastiness, and a light bitter hint. Very weel done the bourbon is nice and light and doesnít overpower the aleís flavors.

Many thanks to Joes for sharing this bottle! Bottle 216 of 492 was written on the label. Dark brown color with a very nice deep dark red glow coming through. Small white head. Smell coffee, wood, whiskey; just very good. Taste soft, velvety, caramel chocolate. Such a good taste! Especially the wood and (light) whiskey are so so good and so well balanced! Superb!

been waiting for this one for a while, thanks to stumpyiliz for this one! says 492 bottles on the label, not 504. pours a very nice deep mahogony body with a smaller head, very nice color and aura. the aroma is very nice, sweet, woody, slightly smokey, all of it subdued and a bit dusty just like the regular hiby. its super smooth, the taste is not nearly as big as you might expect from any beer thats spent 9 months in a barrel. the carbon ation is pretty low but consiseant throughout the bottle and pours. it has a slightly cola/rootbeer thing going on underneath that i dont recall the normal hiby picking up during aging. sweet, smooth, duty, good stuff. great very present but not overpowering barerel profile. this should still be good for another year or two for sure, though i would prefer the complexities because its already so smooth, so i am glad i drank this now.
