COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel Aged Yeti Imperial Stout has been aged for 20 months in used barrels from Stranahanís Colorado Whiskey, Coloradoís only whiskey maker. The rich and robustly roasted beer of 12.2% ABV and 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs) picks up flavors of oak, vanilla and whiskey through the extended aging process. These flavors add greater complexity to the already rich beer, while tempering its assertive nature.

ďOur intent,Ē says Great Divide founder Brian Dunn, ďwas to age each beer in the barrels for 9 months. But we got busy with other projects, primarily the addition of a new bottling line, and the beers ended up aging for more than a year and half.Ē While the labels on the bottles state that the beers were aged 9 months in barrels, both beers were in fact aged 20 months in barrels.

Release limited to 470 bottles.

Aroma is sweet, chocolate. Medium body. Flavored of chocolate, roasted malts, a little coffee. A kick at the finish. Alcohol is nearly completely covered with a bit of whiskey coming through.

2011 bottle, courtesy of a kind soul... shared in a location remote of my dining room.
The beer pours black with a small head and decent lacing on the glass.

The aroma is rich and sweet with a lot of bourbon, a touch of licorice, some caramel, vanilla, and a whole bunch of deep roast reminiscent more of espresso than anything.

The flavor is very rich, nicely bourbon forward with lots of coffee like roastiness. Itís chocolaty with a good bit of vanillin from the barrel along with some toffee. Itís got some odd but pleasant notes of coconut & very light smoke. Of course itís pretty sweet, but itís still got that balance of bitterness that Yeti seems to hang itís hat on, even after 3 years in the bottle.
Honestly one of the best barrel aged stouts Iíve had, I went into it with 0 expectation, but holy moly this is nice.

sheesh

750 ml bottle is 2011 vintage. Pours a near black with a wispy beige edge head and spotty lacing. Aroma is whiskey upfront, bitter chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor is same with hot booze presence throughout. Thick and viscous mouthfeel, carbonation is muted, and a warming alcohol finish. From Johanson tasting notes 3/3/12.

Love yeti. Love barrels. Love yeti in barrels. Dark black with a tan head. Lasts longer than expected given booze and barrels. Coffee, Dark chocolate and oaky booze notes. Medium mouthfeel. Complex and balanced. Chocolate, coffee, oaky. Dances around on the tongue a bit. Lovely

Pitch black pour, minimal brown head. Mild whiskey aroma, well ballanced flavor, with big chocolate and whiskey notes. Quite smooth. A great beer but honestly not as good as the standard yeti.
