COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Roman name for the Low Countries–is a marriage of the best in American and Belgian brewing traditions. Belgian pilsner malt, a generous amount of American and European hops and a unique Belgian yeast strain combine to give Belgica big notes of citrus and spice, creating a lively concoction perfect for spring in the Rockies–or the Ardennes. 7.2% ABV.

First released as Belgian IPA:
Just for fun, the brewers took our Titan, a hop forward American IPA and introduced a Belgian yeast strain to it. The result is unique Belgian-style ale with lots of fruity esters, a citrus hop flavor and nice hop bitterness that’s surprisingly smooth. 7.5% alcohol by volume.

355ml bottle poured a slightly hazy golden color with a decent white head and some traces of lacing. Aromas of floral hops and yeast. Taste is malt and fruit sweetness with some yeast and a moderately hoppy bitter finish. Abundant carbonation and medium body give rise to a nice mouthfeel. This is an interesting beer and was a pleasing tasting experience.

Clear golden body with smooth white head, as I expect a Belgian to be. Quite hoppy aroma with floral and lemon, together with light peach and white bread. Taste start with a quick fresh sweetness but ends with a true hop kick. Leaves a dry taste in your mouth. Alcohol is noticable but makes the body interesting and smooth. Lowl carbonation. Generally like the Belgian IPA crossovers and this is no exception. Recommended. (35cl bottle)

glennmastrange (2241) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - OCT 3, 2011
Bottle. Moderate malt note of grain, perfume and lemongrass for the hops, light barnyard for the yeast, with hints of pear, wood and clove. Head is huge, fizzy turning rocky and forming a thick raft, white with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is hazy and sparkling amber. Flavor starts faintly sweet and moderately to heavily acidic, then the long finish is moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, oily which is mostly hidden by the fizzy carbonation. It finishes moderately astringent and alcoholic. Though a tasty beer, this doesn’t go deep enough into the Belgian Ale style for me to give it a higher score.

I had this with dinner the other night. Like most Great Divide offerings it was earthy and cloudy with big chunks of something floating in there but at the same time very flavorful and had that special Belgian something going on. I liked it.

An excellent aroma, both Belgian spices and lots of hops. This has a ton of Belgian spice right from the first sip. A nice dry hp finish. Pretty darn good. This beer makes me crave for GD in Las Vegas!! I’d buy this one all the time!
