COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Roman name for the Low Countries–is a marriage of the best in American and Belgian brewing traditions. Belgian pilsner malt, a generous amount of American and European hops and a unique Belgian yeast strain combine to give Belgica big notes of citrus and spice, creating a lively concoction perfect for spring in the Rockies–or the Ardennes. 7.2% ABV.

First released as Belgian IPA:
Just for fun, the brewers took our Titan, a hop forward American IPA and introduced a Belgian yeast strain to it. The result is unique Belgian-style ale with lots of fruity esters, a citrus hop flavor and nice hop bitterness that’s surprisingly smooth. 7.5% alcohol by volume.

Bottle, mybrewerytap.com. Pours a lovely hazy gold (was quite chilled). Instant yeasty aroma and plenty of herb in there too. On the tongue, there’s loads of spicy hops and definitely some chilli! The alcohol is strong and gives heat and plenty of body, hinting at a sour. Mellows with drinking, but the strength remains prominent. A sipping beer, with a fine kick, hoppy lingering finish.

Bottle at US Beerfest, North Bar, Leeds. This is a very impressive beer, I feel. Pours a hazy orange with a small-ish head. Aroma is huge, could smell it at the table from where I was sitting down. Fruity, hoppy, with sweet and spicy notes. Taste is wonderful - sweet malt balanced by hoppiness, with floral, spicy and ester notes. Very complex, keeps you guessing about it all the way through to the bitter finish. I’m not a fan of aggressively bitter hops, but these aren’t, and this, coupled with the overall complexity of the beer makes it my kinda beer. Very nice, deserves to be rated higher than it is, in my opinion.

Bottle from Canal’s in Lawrenceville, NJ. Spicy Belgian yeast esters right up front in the nose with a touch of lemon zest. Flavor is a mix of mild grapefruit, bubblegum, toffee and toast with touches of chocolate. Surprisingly watery mouthfeel. Dry finish with a little bitter, herbal kick.

Bottle. Classic tripel Belgian yeast strain dominating the aroma, banana more pronounced than any kind of hops. Taste is very dry- saison all the way, getting some bitterness but it’s at the very end and it kind of just sticks there. Not sure if this works for me. The beauty of an IPA or Pale Ale is that the sweet malt is balanced by the bitter or citrus hops, but in this case a dry, peppery opening is further enhanced by hop bitterness.... i.e., overall lack of balance. Nice quality, but not for me.

Bottle at home. Slightly hazy amber, medium white head. Earthy nose, sweet, some grapefruit. Taste is mid dry, fruity, some cloves and Belgian sweet up front, medium hop linger. Not as hoppy as I imagined, but decent.

A golden ale with light carbonation and thin white head. A great nose of pineapple and some brett funk along with a hint of spearmint (hope it doesn’t carryover to taste!). Fairly typical sweet Belgian body with plenty of fruitiness and a bit of bitter in the finish. Medium bodied fairly sweet and longlasting. I went Belgian and paired this with chips and Mayo.

Sampled on 6/3/2011. This Belgian Ale pours a hazy orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with decent lacing and nice retention. The aroma is fruity (peaches), hoppy and sweet, with some yeasts and citrus. A medium bodied Belgian IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet, peaches and apricots. The hops are citrusy and floral. Lively carbonation. Nice citrusy hops balance with some nice Belgian yeasts and fruitiness. Nice combination of flavors. It finish is super dry. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp, dry and clean. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
