The Roman name for the Low Countries–is a marriage of the best in American and Belgian brewing traditions. Belgian pilsner malt, a generous amount of American and European hops and a unique Belgian yeast strain combine to give Belgica big notes of citrus and spice, creating a lively concoction perfect for spring in the Rockies–or the Ardennes. 7.2% ABV.

First released as Belgian IPA:
Just for fun, the brewers took our Titan, a hop forward American IPA and introduced a Belgian yeast strain to it. The result is unique Belgian-style ale with lots of fruity esters, a citrus hop flavor and nice hop bitterness that’s surprisingly smooth. 7.5% alcohol by volume.

Bottle:   Dirty golden, slight sediment, huge fluffy white head, very nice lacing.   Bright and tart floral nose, barnish, certainly smells more Belgian than IPA.   Very barnish on the tongue, musty, some floral notes, semi-sweet hop bite.   Seems decent enough, not a brute on either side of the Belgian IPA fence.   Backside loses its sweetness and becomes slightly dry, and even more musty.   IPA aspect seems to come and go rather quickly.   Becomes a bit more mealy at the finish.   Had a great start, but the backside leaves a bit to be desired.   Aftertaste is a little rough.   Smelled and started out fairly well, but finished in the toilet.   The floral aspect needed to be brighter, less mealiness, and perhaps a bit more hop bite.   Then it would be something to seek out.   Otherwise it was okay.

All they did was add a different yeast strain to the Titan? Really? Yeah there is a hellacious yeast front that hits you like a tempur-pedic pillow. It turned to butter for me after the initial wave. I did not get much Titian form this because there was so much feckin yeast tang! The third one from the variety pack settled down some but by then it was a moot point. Nose of .... you guessed it. Cloudy....yup, Meh.

Funny one. All yeast but the yeast flavour isn’t particularly pleasant. Body is thin and the yeast flavour is sharp so everything clashes ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: lightly hazed deep gold, short creamy white head, some shimmery lace. Aroma: a little pilsner-y, with definite citrus notes of lemon peel and orange zest, and some fresh-cut flowers too. Taste: starts a little sweet, with notes of wonder bread and pie crust, and smoothly flows into a citrusy, flowery hop profile. Finish: smooth and clean, with lingering notes of citrus and floral hops that are only lightly bitter, almost delicate. Notes: A very nice beer. Palate was soft and silky. Hops were very present, but did not overpower the flavor. Extremely drinkable.

355ml bottle poured a slightly hazy golden color with a decent white head and some traces of lacing. Aromas of floral hops and yeast. Taste is malt and fruit sweetness with some yeast and a moderately hoppy bitter finish. Abundant carbonation and medium body give rise to a nice mouthfeel. This is an interesting beer and was a pleasing tasting experience.

Clear golden body with smooth white head, as I expect a Belgian to be. Quite hoppy aroma with floral and lemon, together with light peach and white bread. Taste start with a quick fresh sweetness but ends with a true hop kick. Leaves a dry taste in your mouth. Alcohol is noticable but makes the body interesting and smooth. Lowl carbonation. Generally like the Belgian IPA crossovers and this is no exception. Recommended. (35cl bottle)

Bottle. Moderate malt note of grain, perfume and lemongrass for the hops, light barnyard for the yeast, with hints of pear, wood and clove. Head is huge, fizzy turning rocky and forming a thick raft, white with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is hazy and sparkling amber. Flavor starts faintly sweet and moderately to heavily acidic, then the long finish is moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, oily which is mostly hidden by the fizzy carbonation. It finishes moderately astringent and alcoholic. Though a tasty beer, this doesn’t go deep enough into the Belgian Ale style for me to give it a higher score.
