On tap at Avery Sour Fest poured a nearly opaque dark brown with a lingering ring of brown foam. Aromas of leather, barnyard, bitter chocolate and light coffee. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of bitter chocolate, leather, barnyard funk and light coffee with a smooth dry lingering funky chocolate finish.

Boulder Sour Fest 2010. Pours opaque with a medium-low fizzy tan head, some retention. Aroma is heavy malt, oak, brettanomyces, hops, and alcohol with notes of tar and licorice. Flavor is alcohol, brettanomyces, roasted malt, caramel, and huge hops. Full bodied, creamy texture with a lingering sweetness.

Tap @ Avery SourFest III. Black appearance with a dark brown head. Dark chocolate, coffee, somewhat red fruity, lightly tart aroma. Red fruity, acetic, dark berry, a bit funky, coffee, chocolate flavor. Seemed like kind of a dumb idea and it didn’t come together all that well.

NOTF 2010. Deep black pour with a tight head. The nose is intense and a little bit cocoaish. Tarry and earthy. It’s soft and a little bit of the heavy roastiness has been rounded off - a little bit of soft earthiness. Lightly herbal and pretty nice.

Pour on tap at Avery Sourfest 2012, dark brownish black pour with thin tan head, aroma brought notes of vinegar, burnt malts, some toast, slight acetic and lactic notes, hints of red berry, cocoa come through, hints of chocolate. Taste is similar with some dark berry, vinegar, chocolate, hints of intense funk with a slight roasted and coffee flavor, finishing fairly bitter and slight lactic. Pretty tasty, even though I had my doubts.

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2013 fest rating. black as expected, small tan head. nose really has none of the expected brettanomyces qualities, it’s instead somewhat creamy and lactic milk chocolate and a little soy sauce. lactic/milk notes clash with hop bitterness. body is appropriately full, moderately syrupy, but it’s somewhat more filmy than standard yeti. cheesecloth and perhaps a little curdled/burnt milk noticed, I don’t think the brett plays well with the light roast/astringency already in yeti. not a good result.

@ Avery Sourfest 2012. Black with no head. Smells super rich and cloying with notes of chocolate, vanilla, and Brett yeast. Tasted kinda sour and sweet, with predominating notes of sour oak, and cloying sweet chocolate and roasted black grains. Seems like its more rich and powerful than its normal form, and I’m not terribly fond of it..

Reviewed from Night of the Funk notes. On tap at Night of the Funk. Pours a very dark brown with a thin mocha head and a few legs after a quick swirl or two. The nose brings forward some roasted malt, chocolate, and a bit of earthy funk. Fits together pretty well. The taste doesn’t fare as well, as the Brett and funk begin to take over a bit too much and have really dried things out. Feel is a bit too thin and dry after what the Brett has done. Not bad and an interesting experience, though not something I’d clamor to have again.

On tap at Avery Sourfest 2012. Poured a deep, opaque, brown, almost black with a khaki head and good lacing. Smell is dark fruit, some light brett, cocoa nibs, dill, and a hint of espresso. Taste is cocoa, light tartness, bitter coffee, funk, and acid. Doesn’t really taste good, kind of all over the place and somewhat weird. Good body and mouthfeel, but a very out-of-balance brew. Meh.
