Boulder Sour Fest 2010. Pours opaque with a medium-low fizzy tan head, some retention. Aroma is heavy malt, oak, brettanomyces, hops, and alcohol with notes of tar and licorice. Flavor is alcohol, brettanomyces, roasted malt, caramel, and huge hops. Full bodied, creamy texture with a lingering sweetness.

Interesting beer. I’m a huge Yeti fan so had to try this. Pours a dark black with a bit thinner body and translucent edges than the normal. Dark thin oily head that quickly fades. Aroma is very much the same dark roasted malts but some sour notes come through with warmth and air. Hits like a normal yeti up front with sweet malt and dark chocolate but this is wiped away in very short order by a medium tart acidity. More of a novelty thing for me...was good with a mushroom and sausage pizza with white sauce.

Dark black with tan head. Aroma is mild roast and mushrooms. Taste is less roasty and hoppy then regular Yeti. Very smooth silky texture.

Reviewed from Night of the Funk notes. On tap at Night of the Funk. Pours a very dark brown with a thin mocha head and a few legs after a quick swirl or two. The nose brings forward some roasted malt, chocolate, and a bit of earthy funk. Fits together pretty well. The taste doesn’t fare as well, as the Brett and funk begin to take over a bit too much and have really dried things out. Feel is a bit too thin and dry after what the Brett has done. Not bad and an interesting experience, though not something I’d clamor to have again.

Black pour, Aroma is very similar to regular Yeti, Chalky chocolate, some roasty bitterness, a bit of brett peeks its head through, but not much. Mouthfeel is nice a creamy, flavor is like regular Yeti mixed with some light chalky brett and a bit of sour milk. sounds unappealing but I actually quite enjoyed it.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 oteyj (1896) - Washington DC, USA - NOV 7, 2010
Very similar to the regular yeti incarnations. Black pour with a thin tan head. Tons of chocolate and coffee in the nose with hints of caramel and earthy cream. The flavor holds a very slight brett sournes that is largely overpowered by the complex dark malt arrangement. Huge thick mouthfeel with a sticky finish.

Avery Sour Ale Fest. Bizarre. Lots of props to Gread Divide for messing with this brew so much. Very interesting profile. Still nice and thick, with some funky leathery notes coming in with the roasty, chocolaty flavors of the regular Yeti. Not stellar, but a neat experiment.

Draught from Avery Sour Fest. Black with no head. Aroma is still rich dark chocolate and beautiful lighter coffee but also espresso, wet leather, all fairly strong. Taste is woodier with sour cherry or apple with still tons of coco powder. As beer warms, coco and booze becomes more apparent.

fest rating. black as expected, small tan head. nose really has none of the expected brettanomyces qualities, it’s instead somewhat creamy and lactic milk chocolate and a little soy sauce. lactic/milk notes clash with hop bitterness. body is appropriately full, moderately syrupy, but it’s somewhat more filmy than standard yeti. cheesecloth and perhaps a little curdled/burnt milk noticed, I don’t think the brett plays well with the light roast/astringency already in yeti. not a good result.
